To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that 1. JOHN A. COOPER. a citizen oi the United States. residing at Mercury. in the county oi McCulloch and State oi Texas. have invented a new and useful Telegraph and Telephone insulator, oi which the iollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to insulators l'or electric conductors and has l'or its object to provide a coni 'iaratively simple and inexpensive device oi this character capable oi being readily attached to a post or other suitable stipporl and by means oi which the line wire may be supported at the desired elevation without the employment oi clips and similar auxiliary iastening devices.
A l'urtherobjcct oi the invention is toprovide air insulator having a central projection delining oppositely disposed seating grooves ior the reception oi the line wire thereby to permit the line wire to be adjusted la t.- erally with respect. to the insulator.
A iurther object is to provide means ior preventing accidental displacement oi the line wire and means ior guiding the line wire to the seating grooves.
A. still further object oi the invention is to generally improve this class. oi devices so as to increase their utility. durability and elliciency.
Further objects and advantages will appear in the iollowing description. it; being understood that various changes in iorm. proportions and minor details oi construction may be resorted to within the scope oi the appended claims.
In the at'fcompanying drawings iorming a part oi this specification: Figure l is a perspective view oi an insulator constructed in accordance with my invention showing the line wire seated in one oi the grooves. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the line wire seated in the opposite groove.

The improved insulator iorniing the subject matter oi the present invention comprises a body portion 5 iormed oi glass. porcelain or other suitable material and provided with laterally extending perl'orated ears (3 ior the reception oi screws or similar fastening devices 7 whereby the insulator maybe secured toa post or other suitable support.
The body portion 5 is provided with an opening 8 the lower wall oi which is iorined with a substantially V shaped projection E) deli ningoppositely disposed seating grooves 10 and 11 [or the reception oi the line wire 12.
The upper end oi the body portion is provided with a vertically disposed slot 12 which communicates with the opening 8 and through which the line wire is introduced into the seating grooves 10 and 11. the upper wall oi the opening 8 being inclined towards the lower end oi the slot 12 as indicated at; 13. so as to prevent the line wire ironi passing through the slot 12 l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l t l l l l l l l t i l The walls oi the body portion 5 at the mouth oi the slot 12 are concaved. as indicated at 14 so as to guide the line wire to said slot. said walls being preierably curved or rounded transversely so as to prevent cutting or otherwise injuring the line wire when introducing said wire into or removing said wire iron]. the slot 12.
The opposite longitudinal edges oi the body portion are formed with grooves 15 and 16 ior the reception oi suitable tie wires 17. the cnd oi said tie wires being twisted or otherw coiled around the line wire 12 so as to lock the line wires in the seating grooves. lt will thus be seen that the projection 9 not only serves to guide the line wire to the seating grooves but also prevents said wire l'rom swinging laterally and passing out through the slot 12. When the line wire is to be supported in a straight line said wire is positioned in the seating groove 12 and secured in place by the tie wire 17. it being understood that only one tie wire is necessary at each end oi the line. in passing around curves. however. the line wire is shiited ironi the groove 10 to the groove ll. and in whichv position it will be maintained in spaced relation to the post or other support so as to prevent the wire ironi coming in contact; therewith.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed 1. An insulator comprising a body portion having an opcni g one wal oi which is provided with a projection donning oppositely disposed seating grooves tor the reception of the line wire, there being a slot; iorincd in the opposite wall of the opening and communicating with said opening.

An insulator coinpris 1g :1 body portion having an opening one wall olf which is provided with a vertical proiection delining OppOSitOlfv disposed seating grooves for the reception oi the line wire. there being a slot formed in the opposite wall oi the opening and communicating with the seating grooves.

An insulator comprising a body portion having an openin" one wall of which is provided with a V shaped projection donning oppositely disposed seating grooves for the rece 'ition oi the line wire, there beinga slot formed in the opposite wall of the opening and communicating with the sealing grooves, and bindinc, wires carried by the insulator and en ring the line wire [or locking the latter in the adjacent seating "i'OOVtL l. An insulator comprising a bodyportion having a concaved portion and provided with an opening one wall of which is turmoil with a substantially V shaped projection detini oppositely disposed seating grooves for the reception oi the line wire, there being a slot formed in the con caved portion ot the insulator and communicating with the opening.
3, An insulator comprising a body portion having oppositely disposed attaching ears and provided with an open ing one wall of which is termed with a substantially V shaped proje tion defining oppositely disposed seating grooves for the reception of the line wire. said body poition being provided with a vertically disposed slot. Conlmunicating with the opening and having its walls at said slot inclined towards the mouth thereof.
6. An insulator comprising a body portion having oppositely disposed tie grooves and provided with an opening, the lower wall of which is formed with a substantially V shaped projection defining oppositely disposed seating grooves for the reception of the line wire, there being a slot formed in the opposite wall of the opening and communicating with the seating grooves, and tie Wires seated in the tie grooves and engaging the adjacent line wire for locking the line wire in said grooves.
7. An insulator comprising a body portion having an opening the lower wall of which is provided with a suh JOHN A. COOPER.
