Be it known that l, Pn'rnn lilacrnnnsoN, a citizen ol the United States, residing at Worcester, in the County of WorcesterI and State ol Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useiul Improvements in Loom Shuttle-Checks, oi which the :following is a specification.
My invention relates to a loom shuttle check, and the objectioi` my invention is to provide a shuttle check oi simple construction, and adapted to be coinbined with a shuttle box oi' ordinary construction, either stationary or movable, and with which the ordinary shuttle binder is used.
My shuttle check consists preleraliily ol' a flat spring blade or plate, located at the outer end oi the shuttle box, and having its outer end secured to a stationary part, at the iront outer end of the shuttle box, an d its free end extending back ol the pivoted end oi the shuttle binder, and adapted to engage and bear upon the outer side of the outer end of the shuttle, to bind the same against the baci; ot the shuttle box, and hold and position the shuttle when it enters the box.
l have shown in the drawing a stationary shuttle box at one end ol the lay, and some parts oi a loom connected therewith, and my improvements applied thereto.
Referring to the drawingzf-Figure i. is a plan view ol the right hand end oi the lay of a loom, and a stationary shuttle box thereon, and my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a iront view o the parts shown in Fig. l, looking in the direction of arrow ci same ligure, and Fig. shows a modiiied construction olf the shuttle binder shown in Figs. l, and 2. p
In the accompanying drawing, l is the right hand end ol the lay ot a loom, carryingT a stationary shuttle box er cell 2 lor the shuttle 3, in the usual way.
ll is the upper end oi the picker stick.
5 is a rock shalt at the iront oi' the lay, carrying the protector linger adapted to bear at its upper end against the inner i'ree end of the shuttle binder 7, which is pivoted at its outer end on a stud 8 on the iront side oi the shuttle box. A binder spring S), secured at one end by a screw 5) on the .iront outer end of the lay, bears at its free end against the binder 7.
All oi the above mentioned parts may be oi the usual and well known construction.
l will now de. be my improvements.
l provide a spring blade l0, preferably flat in cross section, the outer end oi' which is rigidly secured, in this instance by a bolt ll, upon the inner side et a stand or casting l2, secured to the iront outer end of the lay. The i'ree inner end ol the spring blade 10 is preferably bent or curved outwardly, and extends within the shuttle box or cell, back oi the pivoted end ol' the shuttle binder 7, and in the path of, and adapted to be engaged by the outer side oi the outer end of the shuttle, it enters the, shuttle box.
The engagement of the spring blade l() with the shuttle, acts to check the shuttle as it enters the box, and in connection with the usual binder 7, acts to hold and position the shuttle in the box.
In llig. 3 is shown the prelerred construction ol a shuttle binder to be used in connection with the spring blade or check l0. ln said Fig. 3, the outer end of the shuttle binder 7 is extended beyond its pivot stud 8, `forming an extension 7, which in this instance has'an adjusting bolt or screw 213 turning in a threaded hole therein. The inner end ol' the bolt li is adapted to engage the outer surlaee of the spring blade l0, at about its central portion, intermediate its ends. The outward movement of the spring blade lO, when. it is engaged by the shuttle entering the shuttleA box, will, through the bolt i3, move outwardly the extension on the binder '7, and consequently move inwardly the binder 7, and cause it to press harder against the shuttle, to hold the shuttle more securely. lry turning in or out the bolt 13, the amount ot pressure oi' the spring blade l0, and also ot the binder 7, on the shuttle, may be regulated desii-ed.
lt will be understood that the details oi construction oi my improvements may be varied ilE desired. For instance, the position olf the spring l0 may be reversed, and the inner end ol' said spring be attached to the shuttle binder on the inner side oi its pivot stud 8, and the lree end oi the spring bear against the end ol` the shuttle on the outside of the pivot stud S, and the tension oi the spring regulated by an adjusting bolt, corresponding to'the bolt '1.3, shown in Fig. 3. i
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
The combination with a shuttle box, und n spring actin ated binder having an extension thereon beyond its pivotal suppori, and an adjusting screw or bolt on said extension, ol a spring blade extending at the rear ol the shuttle binder, and rigidly secured at one end, independent o'i the shuttle binder. with its other end extending inwardly at the rear ol the binder to engage the outer end o1' the shuttle, and said spring blade adapled to be engaged by said adjusting screw or bolt.
