The Schedule referred to in these LettersPatent and making part of the same To all wlwm 'it ma/y concern.-
Be it known that LMUNSON SIGLER, of Paterson, in the county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have inventeda new and improvedMethod of Regulating the Warp-Tension in Weaving-Looms; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, and
Figure 2, a rear elevation of a loom, with my improvement applied thereto. l
The object of this invention is to maintain, automatically, a uniform tension uponthe warp of the moving fabric, as it rises and falls, in the fabrication of the cloth.
This object I accomplish by the use of a series of rollers, fitted in a swinging frame, and applied `to the loom so as to receive and hang in the warp with such a degree of weight as may b e best adapted to the fabric to be'woven, 4said swinging frame being provided with an adjustment by which the weight upon the warp may be increased or diminished, at the pleasure of the operator.
In the drawing- Y A represents the frame ofthe loom, and E represents a pair of cams, by which the upward v and downward motion of the warp is obtained through the agency of levers, upon which said cams act, substantially in the manner shown, said levers being attached to thewaip by means of rigging-cords, as shown.
The swinging in the drawing by B. j
It consists pf two stands or brackets, which, in the v-drawing, are marked B, and the upper ends whereof are united by means of a connecting-rod reaching across the rear part ofthe loom, from one bracket to the other.
These brackets are provided with suitable bearings, to carry the journals on the ends ofthe rollers,- of which there are three, arranged substantially as shown, and each of said brackets is made with a slotted foot, projecting inward,A the slot in the foot of said brackets being made to receive the studs Fupon which said swinging frame is supported, about which it swings or vibrates, and on which it is adjusted horizontally, to regulate the weight or Atensile strain on the warp.
The vibrating brackets. or stands B, in thedrawing, are fitted -with three rollers. The work, however, might be done with two, though not so well, without a diier- Vent construction of stand or bracket.
ame above referred to is-represented` The journals of the top or third roller do not4 have their bearings in the brackets. The rollersimplylies on and between the two lower rollers, and is kept in position by means of a pair of hook-journals, C, which reach down and hook on one of the rods uniting the brackets, and which are tted with nuts at their tops, under which there are springs; made of any suitable material, and in'any suitable form, by which means this top roller can be adjusted to the bottom rollers, as closely as may be desired, to keep the warp in its place, while, at the same time, Ait can -yield to any little inequalityin the thickness ofthe warp, thus leaving the tension always the same, or as nearly so as can be desired in practice.
It has already beenl stated that the brackets B vibrate upon the studs F upon whichthey are supported, .l
and itwill be seen that the further they pull back, the greater will be-the tension upon the warp, and that, if there were nothing to regulate or limit the vibration, the wh'ole swinging frame might fall away forward or away back, entirely destroying its utility. It is therefore necessary to have some means of regulating its vibrations, that is, of ixingvthe points between which it shall vibrate.
This I accomplish by means of a notched bracket, D, which fits in and is bolted on corresponding notches in the top of the frame-post A, and which is'made to project over the inside of the said post and embrace the4 stan'ds or brackets B, in a slot or recess in-which said stands vibrate, the hole through which the screw passes, to secure said brackets D to the frame, being made oblong, by which said brackets can be moved back or forth, to increase or diminish the tension, as the case may'require.
Having now described thenature and extentof my vin vention,
I claim as new herein, and desire to 4secure by Letters Patent- The tension-regulator, consisting of a frame, made and fitted with rollers and applied to the loom, and governedin its operation, all substantially as described, for the purpose of securing a uniform tension of the warp, as set forth.
MUNSON .SIGLER.
