' RAKE CORNER OR KNUCKLE FOR STEEL BARGES.

To all whom, it nmy concern:
Be it known that I, RIOHARD J. -DONOVAN, of Ambridge, Beaver county, Pennsylvania, have invented anew and useful Rake Corner or Knuckle for Steel Barges, 'of which the following i a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the end portion of a steel barge constructed in accordance with my invention; and Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are partial cross-sections on the lines IIII, IIIIII, and 'IVIV respectively of Fig. 1.
My invention relates to the corner constructions of steel barges, and particularly to those wherein the upper portion of the corner is rounded or curved in cross-section.
IIeretofore' in such structures the corner plate has been curved from the top to the bottom, and it has been a dillicu'lt matter to prepare the plate and connect it with the corner piece running along the lower longi-' tudinal corner of the barge.
My invention is designed to provide for the use of a corner portion which is rounded in its upper part and is of angular section in its lower part where it connects with an angle which connects the side and bottom plates through the body of the barge.
In the drawings, 2 represents the upper part of the corner piece, which is curved 1011- gitudinally and transversely, and is preferably formed of a steel casting or a pressed plate. This portion is preferably recessed at the edges, as shown at 3 3 to receive the rake plating 4 and the side plating 5 respectively. The remaining portion of the corner piece is preferably formed of a pressed plate 6, which is formed with a curved or rounded cross-section in its upper portion and with an angular or square cross-section in its lower portion, as shown by the two sections, Figs 3 and 4. 3. In barge construction, av corner piece having an upper section curved longitudinally and transversely, and the remaining section having a curved'cross-section in its upper portion and an angular cross-section in its lower portion; substantially as described.
4. In barge construction, a corner piece arranged to overlap the side plating and rake plating, said piece being of'curved cross-section in its upper part and of angular crosssection in the lower part, in combination with an angle overlapping the side and rake platin on theinside; substantially as described.
