UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1907.
Application filed N wamber 17,1906. Suit-1N9; 848,897.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, REGIN LD HENRY TYE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Goderich, county of Huron, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Trousers-Hangers; and I do iereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My, invention relates to trousers hangers; the ob'ect of my invention is to provide a simple ranger comprising a plurality of horizontally movable fingers, and a simple means for applying pressure on all the fingers to maintain them in closedposition; a 'further ob'ect is to provide means for suspending the hanger on a screw or nail, the head of whichprojeets from a suitable support; and, my invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as
.herein'illustrated, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this app ication, I have illustrated one form of embodiment of my invention, in
' which drawings similar reference characters designate corres ondmg parts, and In WhlOhI Figure 1 is a p an view of the device with a part of the casing cut away. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the upper and 2 the lower member of a rectangular frame" or casing, the end walls of which are formed by the. members 3.
The side fingers 4, by means of the pins 5,
are pivoted to the upper and lower members 1 and 2, and extend to the rear portion of the casing, so that their rear ends bear on the 7 end walls 8, when the fingers are in their closed position. Formed on the outside fingers 4, adjacent their rear ends, are the lugs 6, around which are disposed the ends of the spiral spring 7. The tension of the spring 7 is adapted to maintain the inner ends of the fingers 4 against the side walls 3 of the casing, so that when one outside finger 4 is actuated on its pivot 5 to overcome the tension of the spring, the other outside finger 4 will be maintained rigidly in position to permit the insertion of the trouser's between the fingers 8, which are shorter than the fingers 4, and which are pivotally supported on the pins 9 adjacent the front edge of the casinq and intermediate of the side fingers 4.
A race 10 is secured to the upper and 2 lower members 1 and 2 of the casing,'and is provided with a key hole slot-'11, adapted to receive a nail or screw on a suitable rigid sup port, and to support the casing.
By the construction described, the fingers 4 and 8 are adapted to have a horizontal movement on their pivotal su ports, and the spring 7 is adapted to. normal y maintain the fingers in closed position. 011 account A of their rear ends bearing against the side walls 3 of the casing, when one of the fingers 4 is actuated on its pivot to compress the spring 7, the other side finger 4 remains stationary, so that the short fingers 8 may be free y moved on their pivotal supports.
Intermediate of theirends, the outside fingers 4 are provided on their inner faces with recesses 12. The intermediate fingers 8 are provided with corresponding recesses 12, so
that when a pair of trousers is inserted into the device, the seams of the trousers legs lie Within the recesses 12, and the front and rear.
edges of the trousers legs are firmly grasped by the plane surfaces of the fingers 4 and 8.
To facilitate the insertion of the trousers without having to touch the outside fingers 4 with the hand, the outer ends of the fingers are provided with the beveled surfaces 14. By this construction, the trousers may be gras ed by'the operator and pushed between the gers4and Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters; Patent, is
1. In a trousers hanger, the combination comprisin a casing,- fingers pivoted to the casing an having their rear ends project ing therein, a plurality of other fingers pivoted to the casing between said first-namedfingers, and means for actuating the inner ends of the first-named fingers away from each other and into engagement with the end walls of the casing.
2. In a trousers hanger, the combination comprising a casing, fingers pivoted tothe casing and provided with lugs thereon, a,
spiral spring disposed between the fingers within the casing and seated around said lugs, and a plurality of fingers pivoted. intermediate of said first-named fingers.
3. In a trousers hanger, the combination comprisinga casing, a plurality of fingers pivoted to the casing and pro ecting outside thereof, and means for actuating some of the fingers so that the other fingers are compressed thereby.
4. In a, trousers hanger, the combination comprising a casing, gets pivoted ad acent the ends of theeesing, means for actuatinf'the, fingers towerdeeeh other, a plure ity of pivoted fingers disposed between said first-named fingers, end a brace se- I ed to the casing and provided with a keyhjdle slot. I In a. trousers hanger, the combmetlon ie comprising a casing, a. plurality-of fingers pivoted to the casing, projecting outside thereof, and provided with recesses intermediate of their ends, and means for actusting some of the fircllgers so that the other fingers are eornpresse thereby; In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
