MAP-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1907.
Application filed December 5, 1906. Serial No. 346,505.
To coil whom it inwy concern: Be it known that I, OROPH NYGREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Weston, in the county of Saunders and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Map-Holders and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to portable holders for maps and other similar articles; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the map holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the map holder. Fig. 3 is a detail view. showing the two crosspieces of the base detached from each other.
A and B are the two crosspieces of the base which are provided with feet at their ends for resting on the floor. The crosspiece A has a notch a in its upper side, and the crosspiece B has a notch b in its under side. These two crosspieces are placed in engagement with each other, and a block C is placed upon their middle portions and is secured by screws 0 to the cross iece A, so that the two crosspieces are firm y secured together and to the said block, but can readily be taken apart and put together.
I) is a tube the lower end portion of which has a screwthreaded portion d which is screwed into a correspondingly screwthread ed hole in the block 0.
E is-a rod or tube which is slidable longitudinally in the tube D, and F is a thumbscrew or other approved fastening device for connecting the said tubes together.
G is a crossbar at the top of the rod E. This crossbar is provided with projections g for engaging with the map, chart or other similar article to be displayed. This crossbar is preferably screwed upon the screwthreaded upper end portion h of the said rod, so that it can easily be removed. The whole device is very easily put together, and taken apart for shipment.
' What I claim is:
In a knock-down map-holder, the combination, with a base comprising two crosspieces provided with notches, a base-block provided with a screwthreaded hole, and screws for securing the said base-block to one crosspiece so that it clamps the other crosspiece;
of a tube provided with a screwthreaded end portion which engages with the said hole, a rod slidable in the said tube and having a screwthreaded projection at its outer end, and a crossbar provided with projections for en gaging the maps and having a screw-threaded hole which engages with the said projection. In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
