Be it known that I, JACOB PFnFFnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterloo, in the county of Blackhawk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilet-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of my invention is to provide an improved commode or cabinet which will be entirely sanitary in use and which is provided with means whereby a draft of fresh air may be maintained therethrough, so as to carry off all disagreeable and unhealthful odors through a flue leading to the chimney of a room or the like; and a further object of my invention is to provide a sanitary toilet-cabinet of this character which may be shipped in a knocked-down condition and readily set up and which when set up will be a secure and rigid structure, which will be composed almost entirely of metal parts, which will not absorb odors and that can be readily cleaned, and which will be composed of few and simple parts thatwill cooperate to produce a satisfactory. article of this' nature.
For a full description ofthe invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the'means for eifecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and ac companying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my improved sanitary toilet-cabinet. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are enlarged detail sectional views illustrating the joints between the parts of the cabinet. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the framework on which the pail-supporting tray is designed to slide. Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional View taken substantially at right angles to Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a horizontal section.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the cabinet proper, which in the present instance is rectangular in shape and is entirely composed of sheet metal and is provided with two sides 2, back 3, bottom and top 4 and 5, respectively, and front 6, the latter being provided with ahinged door 7, formed with any desired construction of.

two sides 2 are turned upon themselves at the edges, as indicated at 9, Fig. 4, at both top and bottom and sides. The doubled edges 9 of the sides form at the top upwardlyfacing pockets 10 and at the bottom upwardly-facing pockets 11, the former being located outside of the sides and the latter located on the inner sides thereof. The vertical doubled edges of the sides 2 are so constructed as to produce outwardly-facing pockets 12. The bottom 4 is provided on all four edges with a downwardly-extending flange 13, said flanges being designed to slide downwardly into the pockets 11 at the lower edges of the sides 2 and alsointo corresponding pockets 14, formed by the doubled lower edges of the front 6 and the back 3. The front and back have their upper edges folded upon themselves to form upwardly-facing pockets 1.5, and the top is provided along all four sides, and preferably within the margins thereof, with downwardly-extending flanges 16, also intended to slide into the pockets 10 and the pockets 15.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the cabinet 1 is in the present instance-composed of siX main parts, of which the two sides 2 have a sliding-joint connection with the top and bottom and with the front and back and that the upper edges of the two sides and the front and back are doubled upon themselves to permit the downwardly-extending flanges 16 of the top 5 to slide downwardly therein. Hence the cabinet may be shipped in a knockdown condition and readily set up when it arrives at Preferably bolts 17 are secured in the sliding oints of the various parts, so as to securely maintain the parts in their rigid set-up relation. The flanges 16 are preferably formed by bending downwardly the edges of a plate 18, preferably of metal and secured in any suitable manner to the lower face of the top 5, which is preferably of wood. A lid 19, also preferably of wood, is hinged to the top 5 at one edge and in its lowered position fits neatly over the top, so as to cover the usual opening 20 therein. The top 5, as is manifest, constitutes the seat of the device. Extending downwardly around the opening 20, and preferably secured to the metallic plate 18, is a tapering and oval guard 21.
A sheet-metal frame 22 is designed to rest detachably on the bottom of the cabinet'l,
facing the opening formed by the door 7, and said frame comprises two side-supporting ledges 23, preferably of U shape, with their edges doubled upon themselves for strengthening purposes, two inclined track members 24, preferably secured to the ledges 23 by outwardly and d ownwardly extending flanges 24 taking over the upper edges of the inner sides of said ledges, as shown, a front cross bar 25, and a rear cross-bar 26. The rear cross-bar 26 -is preferably of inverted-U shape, as shown, and forms a forwardly-facing shoulder 27 at the rear upper end of the trackway formed by the two spaced-apart track members 24. The lower end of the inclined trackway is adjacent the front opening of the cabinet.
In connection with the frame 22 I have provided a tray 28, which is intended to slide on the trackway just described into and out of the cabinet. The tray 28 is preferably of sheet metal and is provided at its rear end with a downwardly and rearwardly extending supporting cross-bar 29 and at its front end with a cross-.bar 30, which is higher than the cross-bar 29. The two cross-bars 29 and 30 support the tray 28 as it is slid inwardly and outwardly on the inclined track members 24. Hence the tray will always be maintained in such movement in a horizontal position. The tray is provided on its upper face with an annular flange 31, designed to prevent the displacement of the pail 32 when the latter is supported on the tray. The tray may also be provided with a handle 33, if desired, by which it may be slid into and out of the cabinet. The back 3 of the cabinet is provided with an outwardlyeXtending cylinder 34, surrounding an opening 35, and the cylinder 34 is to have a pipe coupled thereto or in any other suitable manner to be connected to a flue or chimney for the outlet of odors. To produce a draft through the cabinet to carry off odors, the door 7 is preferably provided with ports 37 near its bottom. By this means fresh air will be drawn into the cabinet at the bottom thereof and be carried out through the opening 35 to thus maintain a circulation of fresh air.
In the practical use of my invention after the cabinet has been set up, with the top detachably held in place and with the frame 22 in lace in the bottom of the cabinet, the pai 32, supported on the tray 28, may be convenient y slid into the cabinet by pushing the tray inwardly on the track members 24. The inclination of the latter will carry the pail upwardly while it is being moved rearwardly in the cabinet, and thereby bring the upper edge of the pail in contiguous relation to the lower edge of the tapering guard 21. The top 38 of the pail may be supported within the cabinet until the device has been used, and then by either removing the top 5 which the cabinet may be shipped in a knocked-down condition and set up for use,
and which will in an efficient manner prevent any unhealthful or disagreeable odors from escaping from the cabinet into the room.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A device of the character described, comprising a cabinet provided with an inclined trackway, an opening leading thereto, the trackway leading upwardly from said opening, and the cabinet also provided with a top or seat provided with an opening therethrough, and means for sliding a pail into and out of said cabinet on said trackway, whereby the pail will be raised toward the opening in the seat as it is moved inwardly on the trackway.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a cabinet provided with a front opening and a rearwardly-inclined trackway in the cabinet leading from said opening, the cabinet being also provided with a top or seat having an opening therein, and a pail-su porting tray designed to slide on said trackway, as and for the purpose specified.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a cabinet provided with a front opening and with a top or seat having an opening extending therethrough, with a depending guard surrounding the opening in the seat, a frame supported in the bottom of the cabinet and provided with inwardly-inclined track members, and a tray designed to support a pail or the like and mounted to move on said track members.
4. A device of the character described, comprising a cabinet, a rearwardly-inclined trackway in said cabinet, a tray mounted to slide on said trackway, and means for maintaining said tray in a horizontal position while sliding on said trackway.
5. A device of the character described, comprising a cabinet, a frame detachably supported in the bottom of the cabinet and embodying side-supporting ledges, inclined track members and front and rear cross-bars connecting the two, of which the rear crossbar forms a forwardly-facing shoulder, and a tray designed to support a pail or the like and adapted to slide on said track members and abut against the said shoulder, as and for the purpose set forth.
6. A device of the character described,
comprising a cabinet, an inclined trackway in the bottom of the cabinet, and a tray designed to support the pail or the like and mounted to slide on said trackway, said tray being provided at its front edge with a crossbar adapted to support said edge on a level with the other edge, substantially as specified.
7. A device of the character described, comprising a cabinet, a frame detachably supported in the bottom of the cabinet and embodying U-shaped side-supporting ledges, inclined track members having side edges turned upon themselves and crimped over the upper edges of the inner members of the U-shaped side-supporting ledges, and front and rear cross-bars connecting the two in clined track members, and a tray designed to support a pail and adapted to slide on the said track members, said tray being provided at its front edge with a cross-bar.adapted tobeing provided with a downwardly-extend- I ing rear cross-bar 29 and a front cross-bar 30, the lattercross-bar being higher than the former and adapted to support the tray on a level, and the tray also being provided with an annular flange 31, as and for the purpose set forth.
