WILLIAM I-I. TICIIBORNE, OF NEW CASTLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IRONINGWTABLE..
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1907.
Application flied september 11,1906. serial No. 334,121.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM H. Tron- BOENE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Castle, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Ironing-Board, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.
My invention has for its object to provide an ironing board simple in construction, effective in operation and durable in use, and adaplted to be attached to tables of various heig ts, to beremoved therefrom, and folded conveniently for storing when not in use. These objects I accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views, and in which Figure 1 represents an ironing board embodying my invention and secured to the edge of a table; and Fig. 2 represents a plan view of the under side of a board embodying my invention with the arts folded together.
As illustrated in the rawings, l represents an elongated board having an inclined support 2, pivotally connected by means of a hinge pin 2EL with parallel bars 3, secured to the under side of the board, which serve as braces aswell as bearings for the upper end of the inclined support 2. The forward ends of the bars 3 are preferably cut away so as to engage and be secured to a transverse cleat 4, attached to the under side of the board 1. The inclined support 2 is arranged in the central longitudinal line of the board 1, so that the board may be evenly balanced and supported on the upper end of said support. A clamp 5 is mounted upon the inclined support 2, and has a sliding engagement thereon so as to enable the support 2 to be inclined to correspond with the height of the table to which the board may be attached and su port the board in a horizontal position. T e interior dimensions of the clamp 5 are preferably made slightly-larger than the outer dimensions of the sup ort 2, so that an upward or outward pul on the lug 5a formed on the clamp 5 will cause the opposite ends of said clamp to bear against the op osite edges of the inclined su port 2 and loc said clamp in position on the inclined support. A connecting rod and brace 6 is freely connected at one end with the lug 5a formed on the clamp 5, and at its opposite end with a lug 7a formed on a clamp 7 provided with cleat 8 secured to the forward end of the board. The body of the clamp 7 extends backward from the journals 7c and forms a yoke provided in its lower end with a bearing Ajournals 7 e'having bearings in a transverse 7b adapted to clamp the under surface of the 'projecting edge of the top of a table 9, the,
transverse cleat 8 forming a wide bearing for the forward end of the board on the top of the table. After the clamp 7 has been secured to the top of a table, the inclined support 2 is adjusted so as to bring the board 1 into a horizontal position, and the clamp '5 is pressed downward on the inclined support 2 until the edges of the clamp 5 grasp the edges of the inclined support firmly and hold said -support in the desired position. A sleeve board 10 may be pivotally attached to the board 1 by means of a pivot pin 10a, and s aced apartfrom said board by means of a b ock 11 so as to enable cloth to be wound around said sleeve board, and at the same time enable the sleeve board to beiturned under the ironing board 1.
Having thus described myvinvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is on its o posite end with a clamping face, an
incline support hinged to said board, a clamp adjustable lengthwise of said inclined su port, and a rod connecting said clamps, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination with an ironing board,
of a clamp comprising a yoke pivoted at one end to said board and provided on its opposite end with a clamping face, an inclined support hinged to said board, a clamp adjustable lengthwise of said inclined support, and means for connecting said yoke and clamp, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM II. TICHBORNE.
