Description
par sraipspairnnr cerro ABNEST E. GOY/VIN, OF MORRISCNVILLE, AND BENJAMIN F. BROVN, OF LITCHFIELD, ILLNOIS.
STOVEPIPE-HOLDER.
Patented June 4, 1907.
Application filed April 23,1906. Serial N0. 313.280.
T0 all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that we, AnNEsT E. GOWIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morrisonville, county of Christian, State of lllinois, and BENJAMIN F. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Litchfield, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe Holders; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in stove pipe holders or fastening devices.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character by means of which a stove pipe is held in place and prevented from slipping out of the stove pipe hole in the flue. l
A further object is to provide a stove pipe fastening device which will be simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, efficient in operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Tith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawingsz-Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of a flue, showing a stove pipe having the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastening device or holder removed from the pipe.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 and 2 denote inner and outer pipe clamping bands, which are adapted to be engaged with the pipe, as shown in Fig. 1. rfhe bands 1 and 2 are provided on their ends with outwardly projecting parallel apertured ears or lugs 3, through which are adapted to be inserted clamping bolts 4.
On the sides of the band 1 at diametrically opposite points are horizontally disposed, spring-fastening arms or bars 5, the free ends of which are provided with right angularly bent, outwardly bent lugs G. The arms or b ars 5 are adapted to be inserted into the pipe hole of the Hue, and the lugs 6 thereon are adapted to engage the inner wall of the iue adjacent to the edge of the stove pipe hole, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
Between the lugs 3 of the band 1 is arranged an apertured tongue 7, through which the bolt 4 is adapted to pass, thereby securing the tongue to the band 1. To the outer end of the tongue 7 is attached one end of a fastening rod or wire 8, the opposite end of which is connected to a right angularly formed connecting plate 9, the apertured, upwardly-projecting portion of which is adapted to be engaged with an eye-bolt 10, the eye of said bolt being engaged with the clamping bolt 4, between the lugs 3 of the band 2. On the outer threaded end of the bolt 10 is arranged a washer 12 and a nut 13. By means of the nut 18, the connecting plate 9 may be held in adjusted positions on the bolt 10 and the fastening wire thereby stretched and held taut, thus securely holding the stove pipe in place in the chimney flue.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. A fastening device of the character described comprising a pair of bands, means to clamp or fasten said bands to the stove pipe, a pair of inwardly-projecting spring fastening arms secured to one of said bands and adapted to be inserted through a stove pipe hole, right angul arly bent lugs formed on the inner ends of said arms to engage the inner wall of the flue adjacent to said stove pipe hole, a fastening wire connected to one of said bands, and means whereby the opposite end of said wire is adjust-ably connected to the other band, substantially as described.
2. A stove pipe holder and fastening device of the character described comprising a pair Iof clamping bands having right anguf larly bent apertured lugs formed on their op- IOO posite ends, clamping screws arranged in said lugs, a pair of horizontally disposed inwardlyprojecting spring fastening arms secured to one of said bands and adapted to project into a stove pipe hole, retaining lugs formed on the ends of said ar'rns to engage the inner Wall of the Hue, a tongue connected to one of said bands by the clamping nut therein, a fastening Wire connected at one end to said tongue, a connecting plate secured to the opposite end of said Wire, an eye-bolt connected to the outer clamping band by the clamping bolt therein and engaged With said connecting plate and a nut arranged on the outer end of said eye-bolt to hold said connecting plate in l' 5 set our hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
