REN WILLIAM FADDEN, OF'OMAHA,
TO B. EDWARD ZEISS,
NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
GUIDE FOR PLACING EYELETS IN HATS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1907.
Application filed February 12,1907. Serial No. 357,089.
To all whom it Indy concern.-
Be it known that I, REN WILLIAM FAD- DEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guides for Placing Eyelets in Mens Hats, of which the following is a specification. I My invention relates to improvements in what may be termed guides for aiding the placing of eyelets in mens hats. Its objects are to effect the aforesaid purpose with expedition and facility and to carry out that end in an economic andv simple Way.
Said invention consists of certain structural features or instrumentalities, substantially as hereinafter disclosed and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention The figure is a perspective view thereof.
In the disclosure of my invention, I suitably provide two preferably spring-steel or metal members 1, 1, having the dimensions of straps, which are adjustably or slidably connected together preferably by passing the same through loops 2 fixed at their respective upper ends, as in accommodating the device to different sized hats. Said members have suitably fixed or brazed to their lower ends preferably sheet-brass flat-pieces or plates 3, each having preferably duplicate pendent projections or terminals 4 for resting the same upon the hat-brim, as in applying the device for practical use, thus upraising or elevating the plates to the requisite opposite points of the hat body or crown. Said brass sheet pieces or plates 3 have each stamped or punched therein numerous uniformly arranged perforations 5 which, when the plates are brought close to the hat-crown or body serve, as is apparent, as guides for, and through which may be inserted the puncturing implement usually employed for that purpose, as in producing numerous perforations in said. hat-body, which perforations are for ventilating purposes. 'The device is readily applied for use by simply resting the leg-like projections or pendants of the platemembers upon the hat-brim, said members being brought close to, or in contact with said hat-body and the upward extending strap-members clasped also closely to the latter, thus holding the device in effective position, while the puncturing or perforating operation is being performed, which, with the use of said device, may be effected with great expedition, facility and uniformity, especially as desirable in bringing each series or group of perforations directly opposite each other in the hat-body, the purpose of which is obvious. This device is also exceedingly simple and cheap, and readily manufactured and applied for practical use.
claim 1. A device of the character described, having opposed plate members equipped with numerous perforations and fixed to upward-extending connected together strapmembers.
2. A device of the character described, having with numerous perforations and fixed to up ward-extending strap-members, each provided at its upper end with a clasping loop for adjustably holding the same together.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
REN II ILLIAM FADDEN.
Witnesses:
W. B. MULAIIIILL, JOHN MoQUILLIN.
