UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 15, 1907.
Application filed November 20. 1905. Serial No. 288,154:-
To all whom it 17mg concern.-
Be it known that I, KISTEL OSEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Slidable Hinge-Hangers for Grain-Doors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in slidable hinge-hangers for grain-doors for .cars; and it consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter par ticularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side view of the door and hangers and of a portion of the car adjacent thereto. Fig. 2 is a section on line o of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the door raised. Fig. 4 is a top view of the door-hanger guide. Fig. 5 is a section on line w w of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a section on line x as of Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a front view of a pintle and slide forming part of the invention. Fig. 8 is a section on line y g of Fig. 7, and Fig. 9 is a top view.
In the drawings, A represents the car, and
. B a swinging grain-door slidably supported by means of pintles 2, extending through slides 3, which slides embrace the vertical guides 4, arranged along the sides of the door-opening. The guides are bent at their tops to form sockets 5 to receive the upwardly and downwardly bent hooks 6 of the slides. The sides 7 of the slides are wider at their tops than at their lower ends to allow tilting outward of the upper ends of the slides in sliding the door and in disconnecting the hooks 6 from the tops of the guides, as hereinafter set forth. A suitable hook 8 is carried by the roof of the car to engage with and support the free edge of the door when the door is in raised position, as shown in Fig. 3. The door is shown provided with an ordinary hinged extension-flap 9, adapted to be held closed by hooks 10. As shown, the pintles are bent downward at their inner ends where secured to the door, and their outer ends 11 are upwardly bent to prevent disconnection from the slides.
In operation'the door will be carried to raised position in the ordinary manner with the slides tilted, as shown in Fig. 2. When the slides reach the top of the guides, the op erator by properly holding the door may cause the slides to swing flat against the guides, so as to be drawn into the sockets. The door may then be hung in raised position in the ordinary manner, as shown in Fig. 3.
To lower the door, the operator will first release the free end of the door from the hanger 8 and then lift the slides by means of the door from the sockets holding the door, so as to tilt the slides and allow thedoor to drop to lowered position.
I claim 1. The combination of a door-frame and door fitted thereto, of vertical fiat guides secured along the sides of the door-frame and 4 provided with upwardly-opening sockets in their upper ends, slides embracing said guides and each having a horizontal pivotal support upon said door to permit them to tilt upon said guides, and outwardly and downwardly bent hookscarried'by the upper ends of said slides for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with a door-frame and a door fitted thereto, of vertical fiat guides secured along the sides of the door-frame and provided with sockets in their upper ends,
slides embracing said guides having up- KISTEL OSEL.
