HAT-VENTILATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed December 15, 1906. Serial No. 348,040.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bingham Canyon, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented a new and useful Hat-Ventilator, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to hat-ventilators and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a ventilator adapted to be inserted between the sweat-band and side of a hat for the purpose of admitting air under the top of the hat.
The device consists of a strip of metal which is provided with a series of openings extending parallel to each other through the longer transverse dimension of the said strip. The metal ofthe strip between the said openings is cut away in order to reduce the weight and virtually to convert the strip into a series of tubes which are connected together by portions of the strip not removed and which form connecting webs. rlhe said tubes are curved outwardly at their lower ends in order that they may be disposed under the brim of a hat.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a horizontal sectional view of a hat provided with the ventilator, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the ventilator detached; and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of a portion of the side of a hat and sweat-band, showing the ventilator located therein and incased in a fabric pocket.
The ventilator consists of a strip of metal l which is provided through its longer transverse dimension with a series of parallel openings. The metal of the strip between the openings is cut away, which leaves the portions l which are in theform of tubes, connected together by the portion or web 2. The lower ends of the said tubes are curved outwardly, as at 3, and the said curved portions are adapted to be disposed under the brim of the hat, while the body portion of the strip is inserted between the sweat-band and the side of the hat. The said strip is devoid of corrugations or like lateral projecting portions, and consequently does not destroy the contour of the hat or disiigure the appearance thereof. The tubes admit air under the top of the hat, and when one or more strips are used there is a circulation over the top of the head.
As shown in Fig. 8, the strip is incased in a pocket 4, which is composed of a suitable fabric. Said pocket protects the ventilator from perspiration and cushions the same against the head of the wearer.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*
A hat-ventilator comprising a strip having parallel openings passing through its longer transverse dimension, said strip being cut away between said openings whereby substantially tubular portions are formed which are integrally joined together by webs, the lower ends of said tubular portions being curved laterally.
