PICTURE-MOUNTING PAGE OR SHEET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 2'7, 1906.
Patented March 5, 1907.
Serial No- 332,144.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CI-rARLEs F. ENGSTROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Charles, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Picture-Mounting Pages or Sheets, of which the following is a specificatron.
My invention relates to improvements in picture-mounting page or sheet and is fully described and explained in this specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a book opened and showing two diflerent forms of my improved pages or sheets. Fig. 2 is an elevation of one of the mounting devices removed I from the page or sheet, said mounting device being of the form shown at the left hand of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a similar elevation of the top of mounting device shown at the right hand of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, A is a page upon which it is desired to mount pictures. This page will ordinarily be a page bound in a book or album; but obviously the invention can be embodied in single sheets as well as in complete books. Upon this page are secured sheets B, preferably of heavy paper, each of the sheets being of the form shown in Fig. 2, the same comprising a central rectangular blank of substantially the size and shape of the picture or other object which it is desired to mount upon the page and each being provided at its four corners with diagonally-extending flaps 6. Before the sheetB is mounted upon the page A each of the flaps b is folded along the line joining it to the rectangular blank B-i. e., along the dotted line b, Fig. 2, in front of the body of the blank B, so as to form a diagonally-disposed corner-strip, such as is shown in Fig. 1. Thereupon the end of the flap b is folded along the dotted line b behind the body of the blank B and pasted or otherwise secured in place. At the upper right-hand corner of Fig. 2 one of the flaps is shown folded into position, and the portion of it which lies behind the body of the blank B is indicated by dotted lines.
When it is desired to mount a picture upon my improved page, the corners thereof are placed under the edges of the flaps I), thus giving the picture a secure mounting.
As a modification of the form illustrated at the left-hand side of Fig. 1 I provide sheets, as shown at the right-hand side thereof, the body of each mounting-sheet being made in the form of a Greek cross and the flaps b being provided at each of the eight corners of the cross, as illustrated in Fig. 3, the same being folded into place, as already set forth. By these means a mounting is secured in which a picture can be held either in a Vertical or horizontal position, as desired.
I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of this construction without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I do not intend, therefore, to limit myself to the specific form herein shown and described.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A mounting-sheet in the form of a Greek cross having diagonally-disposed strips of material extending across the corners of the mounting-sheet whereby a picture or the like can be secured in the mounting-sheet in a vertical or horizontal position.
2. A mounting-sheet having diagonal flaps integral therewith and extending therefrom at the corners, said flaps being adapted to be folded across the corners of the mounting sheet and turned down between the sheet and page to which the sheet is-adapted to be secured.
3. A mounting-sheet in the form of a Greek cross, having diagonally-disposed flaps integral with said mounting-sheet and extending from the corners thereof, said flaps being adapted to be folded across the corners of the mounting-sheet and turned down between the sheet and the page to which the sheet is adapted to be secured.
In witness whereof I have signed the above applicationfor Letters Patent, at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, this 22d day of August, A. D. 1906.
CHARLES F. ENGSTROM.
