Description

"P.GONNOLLY.
FLUID SUPPLY FITTING. APPLICATION FILED DEO.18,1902. RENEWED JULY 25,'1906.
PATENTED OCT. 9, 1906.
PATRICK CONNOLLY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FLUID-SUPPLY FITTING- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 1906.
Application filed December 18, 1902. Renewed July 25,1906. Serial No. 327,751.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK CoNNoLLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fluid Supply Fittings, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved fitting specially adapted for forming hot and cold water connections for laundry-tubs, although the invention is not to be limited to use with laundry-tubs or for forming hot and cold water connections.
A full understanding of the invention can best be given by a detailed description of preferred constructions embodying the various features thereof, and such a description will now be given in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing such a preferred construction.
In said drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the preferred form of fitting, showing the same attached to the partition of a compartment-tub. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of a modified construction. Fig.
4 is a section on line 4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, represents a casing provided with inlet- openings 11 and 12 at one end, which when the fitting is used for hot and cold Water supply will be connected with hot and cold water supply pipes in any suitable manner. The casing is divided interiorly by a partition 13, running from a point between the inlet- openings 11 and 12 into two chambers 15 and 16, and
each side of the casing shown, which is intended for use on a partition of a compart ment-tub, is provided with outlet- openings 19 and 20 from the chambers 15 and 16, re-
spectively, these outlet-openings being adapted to receive suitable outlet-cocks 21. The casing is preferably of rectangular form and is intended to be secured to the partition of a compartment-tub for the purpose of supplying hot and cold water to compartments on each side of the v artitions. Preferably the partition will be cut away to receive the casing, as shown in Fig. 1, so that the top of the casing will lie flush with and form a continuation of the top of the partition, and
' the casing is preferably formed on the bot tom and front end with flanges 26 for extending on each side of the partition to hold the casing in position. The casing is preferably formed at its back end with a downwardlyextending lug 27, provided with an opening for receiving a screw or bolt for fastening the casing to the tub. Thecasing is also preferably formed to extend a short distance beyond the back wall of the tub, and this extension preferably extends slightly clownward from the main portion of the casing, so that the inlet- openings 11 and 12 may be far enough apart for convenient attachment of the supply-pipes, while permitting the top of the casing to be of less depth than would otherwise be necessary in order to provide for such convenient attachment of the supply-pipes.
The partition 13 is preferably of such a formfor example, as shown in Fig. 1as to permit the outlet-openings l9 and 20 to be placed in line parallel with the top wall of the casing, so that the outlet-cocks will be positioned parallel with the top of the tub-partition.
Figs. 3 and 4 show a slightly modified construction, in which the casing is not formed to extend backward beyond the rear wall of the tub and in which downwardlyextending wings 30 are provided on the easing for securing the casing in place by bolts 31, extending through said wings and the tubpartition. In this figure also the casing is shown as having instead of the side outletopenings 19 and 20 top outlet- openings 32 and 33 in the top wall of the casing for receiving vertical and branching faucets 34 and 35, each formed with branching outlet ends for supplying both compartments of the tub.
It will be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the exact construction and form of the fitting, as shown in the drawings for the purpose of illustrating the invention and to which the foregoing description has been mainly confined, but that the invention includes changes and modifications thereof within the claims.
What I claim is 1. A fitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, for compartment-tubs, formed of a casing having two inlet-openings at one end and a partition dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments with which the inlet-openings respectively communicate, and having in both sides of the casing an outletopening from each compartment, substantially as described.
2. A fitting for forming connections, as for formed of a casing having two inlet-openings at one end and a partition dividing the inte rior of the casing into two compartments with which the inlet-openings respectively communicate, and having in both sides of the casing an outlet-opening from each compartment, the outlet-openings in each side of the casing being arranged in line parallel with the top of the casing, substantially as described.
4. A fitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, formed of a casing adapted to be set into the wall of a tub, and having two inlet-openings at one end and a partition extending from between the inlet-openings to a point on the top wall of the casing and dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments with which the inlet-openings respectively communicate, and having an outlet-opening from each of said compartments, substantially as described.
5 A fitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, formed of a casing adapt ed to be set into the wallof a tub, and having two inlet-openings at one end and a partition dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments with which the inlet-0penings respectively communicate, and having outlet-openings in the side of the casing, one from each of said compartments, substantially as described.
6. A fitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, for compartment-tubs, formed of a casing having a partition dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments, a back extension of a greater depth than the main portion of the casing,
inlet-openings to said back extension communicating with the two compartments respectively, and having in both sides of the casing an outlet-o ening from each compart ment, substantiall y as described.
7. A fitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, formed of a casing having a partition dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments, a back extension of a greater depth than the main portion of the casing, inlet-openings to said extension communicating with the two compartments respectively, and having an outlet-opening from each of said compartments, substantially as described.v
8. A fitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, formed of a casing having two inlet-openings at one end and a partition extending from between the inlet-openings to a point on the top wall of the casing and dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments, and having an outlet-opening from each compartment, substantially as described.
9. A fitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, formed of a rectangular casing having two inlet-openings at one end and a partition dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments with which the inlet-openings respectively communicate, and having an outlet-opening from each of said compartments, said outlet-opening being arranged in line parallel with the. top of the casing, substantially as described.
10. Afitting for forming connections, as for hot and cold water, formed of a rectangular casing having two inlet-openings and a partition dividing the interior of the casing into two compartments with whichv the inletopenings respectively communicate, and having an outlet-opening from each of said compartments, said outlet-openings being arranged in line parallel with the top of the casing, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
