idldtata t Weaeeew FREI-)ERICK G. NIEDRINGHAUS AND WILLIAM NIEDRINGHAUS,
OFST'. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
Lem/rs Patent No. 83,301, ma october 20, 1ste.A
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom t may conce/rn:
Be it known that we, FREDERICK G. N IEDRINGHAUS and WILLIAM F. NIEDRINGRAUS, of St. Louis, in the ycounty of St. Louis, and State of Missouri, have ini vented a new and useful Improved Goal-Hod Bottom,
ofi-'Which the following is a full7 clear, and exact description,.reference'being had to the annexed drawing, making a part'of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a section of a, hod, and our invention, also in section.
Figure 2` represents a top view of our invention. `Similar letters indicate like parts. Our invention consists in the production of an improvedv bottom for a coal-bod, stamped up out of a singlefpiece of'. metal, having an upwardly-projecting flange, of sufficient height to Vreceive and embrace the bottom edge of the side piece of the hod.
In the accompanying drawings- 4 A, fig. 1, represents the side piece' or body of a coalhod, and B, figs. 1 and 2, our improved bottom and foot. This bottom piece is stamped or pressed upv 'om a single sheet of metal, with a base of any de-l sirable form, but with an upwardly-proj ecting -ilange, c, springing from its upperedge to such a height as to form a cup or enclosing1im for the side piece of the -`hod. The bottom edge of the side piece A is inserted Within this angeor rim c, when the hod is completed, and may be secured therein by rivets, or bysoldering,
or in other suitable manner. The encircling-rim c,
thus embracing the bottom of the side piece, so supports -it as to prevent any possibility of its spreading open, making a close, secure, strong joint, which cannot be sprung apa VWe do not claim simply making a bottom for a. coalhod out of a single piece of metal, for We are aware that solid seamless bottoms have been both cast and stamped of metal'in various forms for this purpose; but having fully described our invention,
We claim, as a new article of manufacture- A-coaLhod bottom, stamped up out of an unbroken piece/of sheet-metal, when'provided with an' upwardlyprojecting iiange, formed to receive, encircle, and 'embrace the lower edge of the body of the hod, substantiallyjnV the manner and for the purpose herein setforth.
- F. G.' NIEDRINGHAUS.
Witnesses: WM` F; NIEDRINGHAUS.
