Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. Fox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Card Cases or Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention consists of a simple and convenient receptacle or holder designed to facilitate the carrying of cards on the person.

The invention embodies primarily a small case or holder in the form of a box adapted to receive cards and having a peculiarly-com structed cover therefor by which the cards may be readily removed from the holder whenever necessary, suitable means being provided to hold the quantity of cards which may be placed in the holder the proper position for delivery on manipulation of the lid or cover, as before premised.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cardholder embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the cover or lid partially opened in the act of withdrawing a card from the device. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the springfollower.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

In carrying out the invention it is contemplated that a card holder or case embodying the same may be constructed so as to be of any ornate appearance as desired, and the finish of the article will of course depend upon the whim of the manufacturer and the cost at which it is to be produced.

The holder, specifically describing this invention, comprises a body or box 1, which is of a suitable size to receive business or other cards in quantity, a cover or lid 2- being provided. The holder is of course of rectangular form, and the sides and one end are pro vided with curved flanges 3, the longitudinal flanges constituting guides to engage longitudinal edge portions of the lid or cover 2, which is movable slidably with reference to the holder. The flanges 3 are of course integral with the holder. The end of the holder opposite that having a flange 3 is cut away at its upper portion sufficiently to admit of the uppermost card of the cards within the holder being displaced by longitudinal movement with the lid or cover 2.

The cards within the holder 1 are supported by a spring-follower 4, which consists of a plate having longitudinal slits near its ends, the outer portions of the plate being sepa. rated from the body thereof by means of the slits and bent downwardly to form spring members 5, which engage the bottom of the holder 1 and which by their spring function force the cardssupported by the follower upwardly against the under side of the cover or lid 2 by spring-pressure.

The cover or lid 2 is a small plate and is provided near its outer end and intermediate of its longitudinal edges with a projection 6, which is pressed therefrom, so as to extend from the under side thereof to engage the uppermost of the cards disposed in the holder 1. The projection 6 is pointed by reason of its peculiar formation, and is thus adapted for positive engagement with a card in the holder in such a manner that when the lid or cover is moved slidably to open the same the projection 6 will carry the uppermost of the cards in the holder outwardly with the cover, so that it will be removed readily from the holder in a manner which will be very apparent.

The cover 2 is preferably stamped from sheet metal and is also formed with a plurality of upwardlyextending projections 7, proximate to one another and affording a roughened-surface portion-for the cover and aiding the ready manipulation thereof after the thumb of the hand has been placed upon said projections 7 The projections '7 admit of movement of the cover or lid 2 back and forth without inconvenience. Not only are the projections 6 and 7 formed with the cover or lid 2, but it is designed that said lid shall be also provided near its opposite longitudinal edges with inwardly-extending ridges 8, which are preferably pressed from the body of the lid or cover in the stamping operation, being located lengthwise thereof. The

ridges 8 are in contact with the uppermost card in the holder 1 and are designed to prevent the cover or lid from sticking as the same is forced into closed position, a card having just been removed by previous manipulation thereof.

It will be obvious from the foregoing that ,an article constructed in accordance with I this invention, if made of light metal, may be manufactured very cheaply and will be of a great convenience to the person using the same in practical everyday life.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A card holder or case comprising a boX-like body of rectangular form, the sides of the body and one end thereof having curved l flanges at the upper edge portions of the same, the longitudinal flanges forming guides, a cover or lid for the holder slidable in the guide-flanges of the sides thereof and having a projection stamped from its under side so as to engage the uppermost card in the holder, i

said lid or cover having a plurality of projections stamped so as to extend from the upper side thereof to form roughened-surface portion to facilitate manipulation of said lid or cover, the lid or cover being provided with longitudinal ridges or ribs pressed therefrom and projecting downwardly from its under side to prevent stickingor wedging of the cover when it is closed after withdrawal of a card, and a spring-follower in said holder.
