To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES L. P. HANDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at China, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bottle attachments designed especially for use upon ink or mucilage bottles to support the pen or mucilage-brush, and has for its objects to provide a simple efficient device of this character which may be inexpensively produced and readily applied for use and one whereby the pen or brush will be effectually supported on the bottle.

With these and other objects in view the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bottle equipped with an attachment embodying the invention. Fi 2 is a top plan view of the attachment or hol er. Fi 3 is a view of the blank from which the ho der is formed, showing the same prior to being bent into shape.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a bottle provided with a neck 2, having an up per marginal bead 3, the neck being terminated at its lower end orthat is, at its point of juncture with the bottlein a shoulder 4.

The bottle, which is conventionally shown herein, is of the usual form and material and may of course be of any desired shape.

Attached to the neck 2 is a pen or brush supporting member or holder comprising a body portion 5 and a pair of reversely-curved straps 6, which conjointly embrace the neck and have their meeting ends detachably united by means of a reduced en aging portion or tongue 7, formed on one o the straps for entrance through an opening or perforation 8, provided at the end of the other strap, the tongue after entrance through the opening being bent in the form of a hook. Formed on the body portion 5 is a pair of op ositel disposed portions or tongues, whicli in t e formation of the holder are bent into shape to form cooperatin vertically disposed clamping-jaws 10, w e formed on the straps 6 at points between their ends are depending bearing pieces or lips 11 adapted when the holder is applied to bear at their lower ends on the shoulder 4.

In practice the blank, as seen in Fig. 3, is formed from a single piece of sheet metal by stamping or otherwise, after which the tongues 9 are shaped to form the clampingjaws l0 and the straps 6 are given a half-turn at a point adjacent the body portion 5, thus to dispose them in a vertical plane, with the bearing-lips 11 projected downwardly. The attachment is then applied to the bottle by bending the straps 6 around the neck 2 and engaging the tongue 7 through the opening 8 in the manner heretofore explained. It will be noted that under this construction the pen or brush may when not in use be engaged between the jaws 10 and be thereby properly supported on the bottle. Furthermore, it will be seen that in the application of the device the straps 6 lie immediately beneath the bead 3, thus to prevent accidental escape of the attachment from the bottle-neck, and are maintained in this position owing to the bearing portions 11 resting at their lower end on the shoulder 4.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A bottle attachment of the type described comprising a body portion provided with cooperating clampin -jaws, straps engaged at one end with the ody and adapted to conjointly embrace the neck of the bottle, and means for detachably uniting the meeting ends of the straps, the clamping'jaws be- 1n adapted to cooperate and to act wholly ingependently of the straps for holding a pen.

A .bottle attachment of the type de scribed comprising a body portion provided with a pair of cooperating clamping-jaws, a pair of straps engaged at one end with a body portion and adapted to conjointly embrace the neck of the bottle, one of said straps being provided with an opening and the other having a tongue designed for engagement through said opening to unite the meeting ends of the straps and depending bearing portions formed on the straps.
