As shown in detail in Fig. 5, it consists of an iron rod 7' and a tube j which carries thin guiding-disks 7', ar ranged at such distance as is required for the vxl lidth of the straps which pass between t em.

This is done by raising the top roller slightly, as indicated, on the set of re lerscc. Theside parts of theframeahave each a long slot f, in which three other guiding-rollers j j 1' are located. These are of the same construction as the roller shown in detail in Fig. 5. All the guiding rollers are turned by the moving leather straps and keep same down on the table. The straps when'passing these rollers come in contact with the tube 9' on the table. The part, 7' is the permanent part of these rollers, while the tubes with the disks may be exchanged for other tubes which have the disk'sat diflerent' distance, more or less of sired width of the straps.

Each of its ends passes through a slot m in the side of the frame a and enters a cam 71. on either side of the machine. These cams are on a shaft 0. Each cam has a circular but eccentric recess n, in
which one end of the pin m is located. When the cams turn, the pin m is moved up and down in the eccentric recess, and when the cam is down then the round holes are punched. During one revolution of the cams the punches descend once, and for a number of holes in each strap a corr'es onding number of revolutions by the cams as -to be made.
The elongated holes are made by a punch ing device. (Shown in detail in Fig. 4.) The punches roper, m have elongated cutting edges. his device is constructed like the device for punching round holes. The punches proper are secured in blocks m,- which are located in a'frame 'm and have blocks m between for the purpose of adjusting them for the straps of various width. These parts are held together sidewise by screws 8. There is an angle-iron m and a small latch m thereon, which retain the blocks in position.
