In this form of bolster the compression member is constructed of two T -pieces 2 2, each provided with a downwardly-projecting flange 3. In addition to the flange 3 each piece 2 has an edge flange, which flange eX- tends above and below the top or compression member. The tension member and the web are formed of a single T-piece 4. The three T-pieces 2, 2, and 4 are joined together directly under the compression member by means of rivets 5, which latter are passe through the flange 3 of each T-piece 2 and through the upper edge of the web portion of T-pieces 4.
In the form of Fig. 4 the bolster is cast as an integral structure. The center-bearing 6 and the usual end bearings 7 are shown and may be secured to the compression member in any suitable manner.
