Description

PATENTED MAY 15, 1906.
W. DEUTSOH. KEY AND KNOB CLAMP. APPLIOATION FILED APR.8.1905.
WILLIAM DEUTSOH, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IKEY AND KNOB CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 1906.
Application filed April 3, 1905. Serial No. 254,572.
1'0 atZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM DEUTSOII, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Key and Knob Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a device for preventing rotation of both the knob and key of a door-lock mechanism.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1. is an elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the same in usev Fig.2 is a side view of the parts shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a face view of one of the members of the device.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the improved knob and keyfastening device comprises two members 1 2 of similar form and that each of said members is made concave on its inner face adjacent one end to provide one aw 3 of a clamp adapted to engage the shank 4 of a door-knob 5. The lower portions of the members 1 2 constitute jaws 6 of a clamp adapted to engage the stem 7 of the key 8. The said members 1 2 are connected by an adjusting-screw 9 by means of which both the clamp for engaging the key-stem and that for the knob-shank can be simultaneously opened and closed. A pin 10 is rigidly secured to the member 2 and extends through an elongated opening 11 in the member 1 and serves as a guide for the members as they are drawn together.
The device is particularly adapted for use in connection with a knob, the shank of which is secured to the lock-spindle 13 by a screw or other fastening, having a head 14, which projects beyond the surface of said shank, and therefore the inner surface of each jaw 3 is provided with a series of recesses (shown as transverse grooves 15) each adapted to receive the head 14 of the fastening by which the knob is secured to said spindle. As shown in Fig. 1, said recesses 15 and the riblike portions of the jaw separating them are of such cross-sectional form that no sharp edges are provided. Should it be desired to apply the device to a knob in which the fastening was directly above or below the spindle, it will be seen that the projecting head thereof would be securely held between the upper ends of the jaws 3 or between the bodies of the members 1 2 at the lower ends ofsaidjaws. The innerfaces of thelowerjaws 6 are preferably roughened or corrugated, as
at 16, in order that they may more securely grip the key-stem. As shown, the jaws 6 are preferably made tapering, and the lower end of each member 1 2 is so shaped as to be adapted for use as a screw-driver, by means of which a screw 14, having a suitable head, may be applied, if necessary. Such a screw may be furnished with each device constructed in accordance with this invention, and by using the screw-driver provided, as aforesaid, by the device the screw connecting the knob and lock-spindle may be readily removed, if not provided with a projecting head, and a proper fastening 14 substituted.
The advantages of such a device as is above described and illustrated in the drawings will be apparent. It will be seen that both the knob and key are positively gripped between jaws and that a single screw 9 acts upon or closes both of the clamps and holds them securely in any adjusted position.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1.. The herein-described key and knob fastener comprising two pairs of jaws, adapted to respectively engage the shank of a doorknob and the stem of a key, and an adjusting device connecting the members of the jaws and adapted to simultaneously open and close both said jaws.
2. The herein-described key and knob fastener comprising two members, each having a concave inner face adjacent to one end forming one jaw of a clamp adapted to engage the shank of a door-knob, and each member forming below such concave portion one jaw of a clamp adapted to engage a keystem, and means connecting said members between the jaw-sections thereof and adapted to positively close both of the clamps formed thereby.
3. The herein-described key and knob fastener comprising two members forming adjacent the ends thereof clamps adapted to respectively engage the shank of a door-knob and the stem of a key, a guiding pin or stud rigidly secured, to one of said members and having one end extending loosely through a passage in the other member, and an adjusting-screw also connecting said members and adapted to open and close both the clamps formed thereby.
4. The combination with a door-knob having its shank secured to the lock-spindle by a fastening the head of which projects beyond the surface of the knob-shank, of a fastening device comprising two members having concave jaws formed thereon and adapted to receive between them the shank of the knob, one of said jaws having its concaved face provided With recesses of such form and dimensions as to receive the projecting end or head of the fastening connecting said knob and lock-spindle, means for moving said jaws into close engagement With the knobshank, and means for engaging a key projectto tWo subscribing Witnesses.
