UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. PERSING, OF BRAMAN, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
CORNER-SUPPORT FOR VEHICLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 1906.
Application filed September 18, 1905. Serial No. 279,032.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. PERSING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Braman, in the county of Kay, Oklahoma Territory, have invented a new and useful Corner-Support for Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vehicle-bodies,.
and has for its object to produce a simplyconstructed and efiicient support for the corners of the same.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view from the interior of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, on a reduced scale, of the improved device viewed from the exterior. Fig. 3 is a sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a plan view, of the improved device applied.
The improved device comprises two L- shaped plates 10 11, spaced apartfor bearing upon the outer and inner faces of the sides 12 and ends 13 of the body portion of a vehicle and connected at their elbows by a diagonally-disposed bracing-web 14. The plates 10 11 are firmly secured to the body members of the vehicle-body by spaced rivets 15 16. Formed integral with the inner plate 1 1 are clamp-plates 17 18, spaced apart for bearing above and below the floor 19 of the vehicle-body and firmly secured thereto by rivets 20. It will thus be obvious that a very strong and durable supporting device is produced which may be attached to any of the various forms and sizes of vehicle-bodies and will materially increase the strength and durability of the same.
It will be noted that the clamp-plates 17 18 are integral with the inner plate 11 and extend in advance of the edges of the same, thus materially increasing the strength of the joint without material increase in the weight of material or the cost of manufacture.
The plates 10 11 are inlaid in the wooden side and end members 12 13 of the body, so that the surfaces are flush, and when the paint and varnish are applied the presence of the corner members is not perceptible.
Another important fact to be noted is that by forming the clamp-plates 17 18 wholly upon the inner L-shaped plate 11 the side and end portions 12 13 of the vehicle-body can be extended downwardly even with the bottom line of the floor 19, thereby enabling the floor to be fastened to the side and end members and supported thereby.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is As a new article of manufacture a corner for vehicle-bodies consisting of two L-shaped plates vertically disposed and spaced apart and connected by an integral web at their elbow portions and forming vertical recesses for the terminals of the sides and end members of the body 0 on at the ends and extending the whole widt of said side and end members, and L-shaped clam -plates horizon- WILLIAM G. PERSING. Witnesses L. G. LENKER, OWEN HOME.
