' EmAolLlT.A i l To a/ZZ whom it may concern.; A
Be it known that I, THEoDonE W. FOSTER,
la citizen ofthe United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and' the construction of av concealed hinge forV bracelets, whereby a stronger and more dura-` ble concealed hinge is constructed than has heretofore been done. Y My invention consists in the peculiar and lnovelconstruction of a concealed hinge for vbracelets with details of construction,as will be more fully set forth hereinafter. p -l y Figure 1 is a side view of a bracelet pro- I vided with my improved concealed hinge and showing the bracelet in the closed position in.
full lines and in the open position in broken lines.` Fig. 2 is any enlarged detail sectional view of the hinge end of the bracelet looking at the outside face of the hinge. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view' taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2 and showing the hinge in the closed position. Fig. 4 is an'enlarged detail sectional view similar yto Fig. 3, vshowing the hinge in the open position.. Fig. 5 is an eninside face of the same.
larged detail viewof one of the hinge `members looking at the outsideface of the member, and Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail kview of the other member of the hinge looking at the In the drawings, b indicates the-upper semioval half, c the lower semi-oval half, and 'd the concealed hinge of my improved bracelet.
The semi-oval halves b and c rare constructed from a tube which is oval in cross-section.
' The upper half l) has the end b for the hinge ,and c of the halves b and c.
ofthe hinge has a soild body portion e', fromy and the end t2. The lower half c has the end c for the hinge and the endc2. The ends t and c and the ends b2 ande2 coincide when the bracelet is closed. The ends b2 and c2 may be provided with any of the well-known forms of catches adapted to hold vthe ends together when the bracelet is closed.
My improved concealed hinge (Zl consists of the members e and g. These members e and g are curved to conform to the contour ofthe bracelet and shaped to fit into the ends b The member e Specification of Letters Patent.

the end e2 `of which extends a central arm e3,
having an end e4, in the concave `face of which isa groove e5, forming at one end a stop-shoulder e", allv formed integral, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5. The end e4 is formed concentric with the center on which the The member g oit' the hinge has a solidbody portion g', from which extends the two side arms g2 g2, supporting the semi- 'circul-ar cross-bar g3, o n the convex face of which is the stamped-up stop-teat g4, all formed integral, as shown in Fi s. 2, 4, and 6. The cross-bar g3 is formed; concentric with the center on which the hinge opens.
The hinge vis assembled by placing the cross-bar gs'of the member g in the concave face of the end e4 of the arrn ye3 on the member ein a position for the stop-teat g? to enter the groove e5, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The
i members e andg of the'hinge are now forced into the ends b and c of the bracelet in to a position where the center on which the hinge 'PATENT OFFICE. l
opens coincides with the juncture ofthe ends b and cl ofthe bracelet. Thebody portions -e/ andg of the hinge members are now se-l cured in the ends b and cf of thebracelet by solder or other means.
The opening movement ofthe bracelet is limited by the stop-teat g4 in the groove e5y engaging with the stop-shoulder e, as shown' in Fig. 4. vThe action of the stop-teat g4 on 4the stop-shoulder e6, in conjunction with thel ends b and c of the bracelet, also prevents the separation of the hinge members after the same are secured in the bracelet.l y
By the use of my improved construction I provide abracelet with a strong and durable concealed hinge having only two parts, each of which is formed integral.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, -I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a hinged bracelet, a concealed hinge comprising a member having a solid body portion from the end of which extends a central varm having an end in .the concave face of which is a groove forming at one 'end a stopshoulder, and a member having a solid body` portion from which extend two side arms supporting a cross-bar having on its convex face .a stamped-up stop-teat adapted to enter .the groove and engage with the stop-shoula memberA e having a solid body portion e IOO IIO
from the end e2 of which extends a Central arm e3 having an end e4 inthe concave face of Which is a groove e5 forming at one end a stop-shoulder e6, and a member g having a solid body portion g from which extend two side arms g2 g2 sup orting a cross-bar g3 on the convex face ofpwhieh is a stampedup stop-teat g4L adapted to enter the groove e5 and engage with the stop-shoulder e to limit the opening movement of the hinge.
3. The combination with a tubular half havingl the end t and a tubular half having the 'end c of a bracelet, of a concealed hinge d composed of the members@ and g, the meinber e having a solid body portion e frontiv the end 'e2 of which extends a eentral arm e3 having 'an end e4 in the 'concave face of which is a two sbsoribing Witnesses.
