UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS HAENLEIN, OF EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FUCHS & LANG MANUFACTURING (10., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A
CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1906.
Application filed September 7, 1905. Serial No. 277,462.
To all whom, it Tnay concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs HAENLEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing in East Rutherford, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bronzing- Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in bronzing-machines, and more especially to an improved mechanism for operating the supply-roller of the bronze-fountain so that it is rotated for a greater or lesser time, according to the size of the sheet to be bronzed; and for this purpose the invention consists of a bronzing-machine comprising a double cam rotated by the shaft of the sheetcarrying cylinder, a fulcrumed lever provided. in its lower curved part with an arc-shaped slot and carrying a roller adjustable in said slot and moving in contact with the double cam, the opposite end of the lever being also slotted, an oscillating lever on the shaft of the fountain provided with a slot in the lower end, means for connecting the slotted upper end of the fulcrumed lever and the slotted lower end of the oscillating lever, and a pawland-ratchet mechanism operated in connection with the upper end of the oscillating lever and adapted to impart the required motion to the supply-roller of the bronze-fountain.
The invention consists, further, of certain details of construction and combinations of parts, which will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents in side elevation a bronzing-machine with my improved motion transmitting mechanism for the supply-roller of the bronze-fountain. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation of the improved mechanism for operating the supply-roller of the bronze-fountain drawn on a larger scale, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the motiontransmitting mechanism.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, C represents the casing of a bronzing-machine; F, a bronzefountain, which is supported at the upper part of the casing in line with the stationary table T for the ingoing sheet which is to be bronzed; f, a supply-roller, which is rotated in the bronze-fountain F and which serves to transmit the required quantity of bronze to the sheet that is fed through below the supply-roller of the fountain S, the shaft of the supply-roller, which is provided at one end with a ratchet-wheelf, that is engaged by a pawlf pivoted to the upper end of an oscillating lever d. A lever d is applied to the shaft of the supply-roller and provided with a slot at its lower end, which is connected. bya pivot d withthe upper slotted arm 6 of an intermediately-fulcrumed lever E, the lower arm 6 of which is curved, slotted, and graduated and provided with an antifriction-roller 6 which is capable of adjustment by means of a thumb-nut if applied to the stud-shaft of the roller. The roller 6 projects somewhat beyond the inner edge of the lower arm 6 of the fulcrumed lever E, so as to form contact with the circumference of a double cam D, which is rotated by a gear-wheel transmission 9 g, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, from the shaft of the sheet-carrying cylinder O, the gear-wheel upon the cam-shaft being twice the size of the gear-wheel on the cylinder-shaft, so that the cam D makes one rotation for every two rotations of the cylinder O and imparts an oscillating movement to the fulcrumed lever E for every rotation of the cylinder. A spring as is attached to the casing of the machine and wound about the pivot of the lever E, so as to abut against the arm 6 of said lever, and thereby maintain the roller c in permanent engagement with the cam D. The lower slotted arm e of the fulcrumed lever E is curved so as to correspond to the curvature of the cam D, the outer edge of the lower curved arm 6 being graduated, so that when the shaft of the roller is set in the slot along the graduations a greater or claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a bronzing-machine, the combination, with the shaft of the sheet-carrying cylinder, of a double cam rotated by the same, a fulcrumed lever provided with a curved slotted and graduated arm, an adjustable antifriction-roller on said arm, means for permanently maintaining said roller against said cam, an oscillating lever mounted on the shaft of the supply-roller, means for connecting the oscillating lever with the upper arm of the fulcrumed lever, and a aWl and-ratchet mechanism operated by t e oscillating lever for transmitting the proper motion to the supply-roller.
2. In a bronzing-machine, the combination, with the shaft of the sheet-carrying cylinder, of a double cam rotated by the same, a fulcrumed lever adjacent to said cam and provided with a lower curved slotted and graduated arm, an antifriction-roller adjustable in the slot of the curved lower arm, means for maintaining said antifriction-roller in permanent engagement with said cam, a su ply-roller for the bronze-fountain, an oscil ating lever placed on the shaft of said supply-fountain, means for connecting the lower end of the oscillating lever with the upper end of the fulcrumed lever, and a pawl-andratchet-wheel mechanism between the oscillating lever and the shaft of the supply-roller.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS HAENLEIN.
