' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patentedi'an- 16,1906
To allwhiomr ma concern:
Be it-known'that I, OBMQND M.'L1ssAK, a
citizen of the United States, residing at West;
point countyof Orange, and Stateof New York haveinvented a new .and useful Imrovernent in Cartridge-Clips, of which the ollowin'g is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which forni a part of this specification. 1
view of the cartridge-clip. Fig. 2 is an ele- Vation of the clip with cartridges assembled,
therein. Fig. 3 is an elevation pfthe clip with cartridges assembled thereinandshoW- ing the tongues crimped into the cartridgeoove. I
lhe clip (shown in Fig. 1) consists of the body A, having the roj ecting internal flanges a a and the rou nde ends a a. Within the body is the spring B, made of soft metal and having'the roun ed ends I), from which pro-' ject the'tongues b. The cartridges C, Figs. 2 and .3, have the groove 0 and heads 0. The cartridges are inserted in the clip so that the flanges a, a rest in the grooves C, and the outer surface of the heads rest againstthe spring B. Thisis the condition shown in Fig. The tongues 11 are then bent nto the grooves in the outer cartrldges. This 1s the condition shown in Fig. 3 and thefinal condition.
The'spring is of soft metaland the tongues of such width that when folded around the head of the cartridges in the clip they may be readily bent back by pressure of the thumb upon the uppermost cartridge and of such length that the end of the tongue can be crimped' into the groove of the cartr1dge-. head. The tongues hold the cartr1dges se curely in the clip, but permit their easy e ecof the ton tion when desired, While the crimpingof the ends. into the ro'ove' of the cartridgepre vents accidenta catching and bending backes by a part of the users clothing or the sol iers equipment. It also prevents scratching of the users hands in ejecting the cartridge from the clip.
' The use of he tongue permits the rounding of the clip ends, which is an advantage, asthe corners of the square-ended clip wear the pockets of the users cartridge-belt. Without the tongues a rounded clip of this pattern cannot be used, .as the ends of the cartridges are held so near the end of'the clip that with the slightest movement they would fall out. By making the spring of soft metal the tongue will not break off when bent back. f
*Havin now fully described my invention, What I c aim, and. desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
i. A cartridge-clip, *icmprising abody and inserted spring and a flexible tongue rojecting at each end thereof adapted to e bent into a groove in the cartridge-head.
2. In combination, a cartridge-clip;- comprising a body and inserted spring, and a exible tongue projecting at each end thereof, a plurality of cartridges, having grooved heads, in said clip, the tongues 'bein bent into a groove in the-head of the cartridge. 3. A cartridge-clip comprising a body and inserted spring, a tongue, projecting from each end of said spring, adapted to be bent into a groove in the cartridge-head.
4. A cartridge-clip comprisin a body and inserted spring, and a tongue 0 fleXible"':na-.
terial, projecting from each end of said spring, adapted to be bent into a groove in the car- 0-.
the spring, adapted to be bent into a groove 5 in the cartrid e-head.
6. A cartri ge-clip comprising a body an inserted spring, the .end of the body and spring being rounded.
'7. A cartridgdclip comprising a body and 100 inserted spring, the ends of the body being rounded, and a projecting tongue of flexible material at each end of the clip.
8. A cartridge-clip comprising a body and inserted spring, the ends of the spring being rooved heads inserted therein, each tongue rounded, and a projectin tongue of flexible being bent into the groove of the cartridgematerial at each end of tie spring. head adjacent thereto. 4
'9. A cartridge-clip comprising a body and In testimony of which invention I have 5 inserted spring, the end of the body and hereunto set my hand, at Westpoint, New :5
spring being rounded, and aprojecting ton e York, on this 3d da of February, 1905. offlexible material at each end of the c i i p. O MOND M. LISSAK.
10. ,In combination, a clip having 'a'body Witnesses: portion and inserted spring and projecting ISAAC A. BOYLE, 1o tongues, of a plurality of cartridges having VINCENT B. RIGNEY.
