Description

' {l o all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WrLLIAM CLEVELAND L TT, a citizen of the United States, residing bro STATES AT N WI LLIAM CLEVELAND LOTT, or. NORTH oH oAGo; ILLINOIS.
' I w RENo -L at North Chicago, in the county of Lake an State of Illinois, haveinvented a-new and useful Wrench, of'whichthe following is a specification.-
This invention relates to wrenches. The ob ect is to combine ma practical and CODYeIllG'Ilfl manner a pipe-wrench, a hammer, a pair of wire-cutters, a sta 1e and a nail' puller, and to have these di .erent implements sodis' osed relatively to each other as to permit eit er to be'used without-interference from the other.
With the above and other objects in view,
I v as will appear as the nature oi'wthe invention is better understood, the same consists in-the novel construction and combination of parts the toolvas it appears when a apted for use V of a tool of the character described, as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed,"
In the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specificationand in whichlike characters of reference indicate correspond ingparts, Figure 1 is a view in ersp'cctive of as a pi e or monkey wrench a -wire -cutter,-or 1g. 2'1s1a view in of the wrench-jaws.
The tool embodies a (pair of cro'ssed and Y pivotally conne'cted ban 1 the corresponding short terminals ofwhich are formedinto jaws 3and14. Bothjaws are serrated ,upon their inner faces, and are dis posed in parallelism for the greater portion of their length, and at its up er endthe jaw-3 terminates in ashort angu ar serrated mem I ber 5, while the jaw terminates in an an ularly-disposed offset 6, the free end of which .is deflected :to form a downturned offset 7',,
the opposed faces of the ofisets 5.and 6 being j serrated. The working face of the offset5 is convex and that of the oflset 6 concave, and
by the cooperation between the oppositelycurved faces a firmer. grip can be taken upon .a pipe than would be possible if these faces employed forremoving nuts the two grip' were-straight. Further," where the tool is ping-surfaces formed by the offsets-5 and6 will afford an extended-range of usefulness to adapt the toolto takefirm purchase upon multifaced nuts; The ofiset 7 has its inner face serratedand forms, in conjunction with 7 of iron or the like.
e members 1 and 2,.

' the rounded end of the oflset 5, a crotch, 5 5
which will operate positively to hold a pipe or other circular object against turnin when gripped by the jaws. The serrate faces rom the joints of the jaws out to the beginvning ofthe ofisets are employed in gri ing. small articles, such as round nails, smal are I On the forward side of each joint is arranged arecess 8, the'two recesses cooperatingtoform. a Wire or nail-cute ter...-
To adapt the wrench between the angular o 4 5 ortionocomprised. sets for working against curvedor interior surfaoes,-the outer face of both sides of the oflsets 5 and 6 are re versely inclined, as 'shown at 9 and 10, re
spectively, -Fig. 2, and this will be found of 'peculiai'advantage in positioning or remov mg nuts from rounded surfaces, such as those on the inner face of the rim of a bu 'gy or other vehicle wheel, the raised parts by the inclines 9 and 10, preventing the contact of the'tool with the-rim, which would be liable to mar the same and also prevent the pro er seating of the nut. 1
member'l and is provided at its free extrem ,ity with "a claw 11, which Will be used in withdrawing staples or in pulling nails, the handle being outwardly curved for'this purpose, In order to bracethe member 2' when employed 85 as an extractor, the free end of the member 1 which is shorter'than the member 2, is curve outward and then inward, and its terminal 12 engages the inner side of the claw 11 adjacent to t of, and thus not only serves to bracethe claw against any tendency to ield, but also presents a'fulcrum whichwill give-added lever age to the tool. f 1 The outer side of the other purpose for which-it may be found 'con- 16o venient. r
