OLIVER LINEBARGER, OF
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA.
SHADE-HANGER.
No. 814,149. p
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 19, 1905. Serial No. 266,022.
Patented March 6, 1906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER LINEBARGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Council Bluffs, in the county of Pottawattamie and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Hangers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The resent invention has relation to that class o shade-fixtures in which the roller carrying the shade is supported upon a vertically-adjustable hanger, whereby the roller with shade may be raised or lowered to admit light above the same; and the object thereof is to provide a simple and practical fixture in which the roller when adjusted in height will be securely held in its adjusted position.
The invention consists in a shade-hanger constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view showing the upper portion of a windowframe with my improved hanger applied thereto; Fig. 2, a perspective view, on an enlarged scale, showing the clamping device for holding the cords of the roller after the same has been adjusted in height.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a portion of a window-frame to which the shade-roller B is suspended, the shade bein indicated at B', said roller bein preferabIy the usual sprin -roller upon wIiich the shade is automatical y wound, or any other form of roller may be used, as found most desirable. The rollerB is suspended at its ends by a hanger which comprises the two relatively adjustable arms C D, the outer extremities of each arm being bent to form loops a b, res ectively, to engagf` the fixtures at the ends o the roller and also bent to form eyes c for attaching the ends of operating-cords E F, the hanger being constructed o wire of sufficient thickness to render it rigid as a support for the shad e-roller. The cords E F eX- tend up and over grooved rollers d and thence to supports f at about the center of the window-frame, spiral guides g holding'the two arms D in their adjusted position', said j l guides forming springs to act with frictional contact upon the arms to more securely hold them in' their adjusted to the length of the roller. Any suitable arrangement of rollers and supports for the operating-cords may be employed, or any desirable means may be substituted for the means shown for supportir the hanger.
The clamping device I which is represented more clearly in Fig?J of the drawings, is constructed of spring-wire of suitable thickness and is bent to form parallel arms e, terminating at their ends in upwardly-extending fingers i. The arms e extend upon the under side of a bracket G, and the lingers are seated in grooves 7', at the back of said bracket,
which latter is in the form of a block secured j to the top of the window-frame by screws or other like fastenings. The wire of the spring clamping device II is bent to form a clam ing-yoke lc, located between the arms e, and t e wire of the device is also bent to form loops Z at theouter ends therewf.
When it is desired to raise or lower the shade-roller, the operating-cords are brought forward to engage the loops] of the clamping device, when the cords will be free to be operated, and after the height of the roller is adjusted the cords are forced back between the clamping-yoke 7c and the arms e and spring action of the yoke against the cords will hold them perfectly stationary, as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a suitable hanger for supporting a shade-roller and operating-cords therefor, of a spring -wire clamping device by the comprising outward -projecting horizontal arms and an inwardly-extending clampingyoke for holding the operating-cords between the arms and yoke, and loops at the outer eX- tremities of the arms and yoke to receive the cords when released from the clamping-yoke, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
