STOPPING MECHANISM.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 2. 1905.

STOPPING MECHANISM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 31, 1905.
Application filed February 2, 1905. Serial No. 243,871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,JOHN G. KINe,a citizen of the United States, residing at Charlotte, in the county of Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stopping Mechanism; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stopping mechanism used in connection with spinning-frames; and it consists of an attachment for breaking the roving on the receiving side of the rollers when an end of the roving comes down.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-section through the rollers of aspinning-frame, showing the attachment in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the attachment.
A is a suitable supporting stand or frame.
B B are three pairs of rollers which are journaled in the said frame and operated in any approved manner.
C is the guide-trumpet, which is supported at the receiving side of the said rollers, and 0 is the roving which passes through the said guide-trumpet and between the said rollers in the direction of the arrow.
D is a guide-bar or wire supported parallel with the rollers in advance of the guide-trumpet and operating to prevent the roving from rising above a prearranged point.
E is a supplemental roller journaled in the frame below the lowest roller B at the delivery end or side of the rollers. When the roving breaks on the delivery side of the rollers. it winds upon this roller E.
F is an arm which is pivoted on a rod f supported in the frame. This arm is provided with a short crank g at its lower end. and G is an eccentric roll which is journaled on the pin 9 of the said crank and provided with two projecting pins 71. and i at one end. The pin it normally engages with the crankarm g, as shown in the drawings, and holds the eccentric roll in a prearranged position, and the other pin 2' is a stop.
J is a stationary guide supported by the frame at the receiving side of the rollers between the rod or guide-bar D and the guidetrumpet. K is a toothed comb or cutter which is slidable vertically in the said guide. The lower part of the comb or cutter is provided with a slot 76, which engages with the arm F, and its upper end is suitably serrated, sharpened, or otherwise constructed so that it will cut, abrade, or otherwise separate the roving into two parts when pressed against it. The free end portion of arm F is provided with a cranked portion having a projection f, which normally rests on the top of the guide and holds the cutter in a prearranged position in the guide below theroving.
When the roving breaks between the rollers or on their delivery side and winds upon the roller E, it partially revolves the eccentric roll G by frictional contact with it, so that the said roll operates the short crank g and turns the arm F upward on its pivot-rod f to the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1. The arm raises the cutter into contact with the roving and severs it at the receiving side of the rollers. The eccentric roll is partially revolved and is also pressed rearwardly at the same time by the yarn which accumulates on the supplemental roller E. and the severing of the yarn is effected more quickly because of the eccentricity of the roll G and its motion, the comb K being forced upward directly the roll G commences to revolve.
What I claim is- 1. The combination, with a spinning-frame provided with rollers, and a supplemental roller for the roving to wind on at the delivery side of the said rollers; of a pivoted arm provided with means for severing the roving, an eccentric roll carried by the said arm, and a stop which normally supports the said roll with its center on the opposite side of its pivot from the said supplemental roller, said roll being partially revolved and also pressed rearwardly by the roving which accumulates on the supplemental roller.
2. The combination, with a spinning-frame provided with rollers, and a supplemental roller for the roving to wind on at the delivery side of the said rollers; of a pivoted arm provided at one end with means for severing the roving at the receiving side of the said In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN G. KING.
