Description

No. 801,499. PATENTED OCT. 10, 1905. M. A. YONKERS.
DISH DRAINER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 11, 1905.

Al/omey PAT ENT OFFICE.
MARY ANNIE YONKERS, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
DISH-DRAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 10, 1905.
Application filed May 11, 1905. Serial No. 259,889-
10 all whom it may concern,
Be it known that I, hL-XRY ANNIE YONK- ERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dish-Drainers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to kitchen utensils, and more particularly to a dish-drainer to be used in washing and rinsing dishes preparatory to drying, one of the objects being to provide a device of the character described that shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, durable, and effective in operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a dish-draining device provided with a slot and an extension-lip, whereby the water may be carried off.
Other objects and advantages of my invention, as well as the structural features by means of which these objects are attained, will be made clear by an examination of the specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which the same referencenumerals indicate corresponding portions throughout, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my entire device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.
1 designates a suitable receptacle or box, preferably oblong in shape and formed of any suitable material, but preferably of tin or some other light and durable metal. This box or receptacle is provided with a corrugated floor or bottom 2 and an oblong opening 3, beyond which projects a platform or lip 4. The object of the opening is to ermit the water to pass out of the receptac e 1 and the lip 4 to carry it into the sink.
In operation the entire device is placed on the sink-shelf or sufficiently near the sink to permit the projecting lip 1 to overhan the same. The dishes after being washe are placed in the receptacle 1 and the rinsingwater poured thereover. Plates, saucers, and similar flat dishes are stood on their edges longitudinally of the grooves 5 in the corrugated bottom or floor of the receptacle and are prevented from slipping sidewise by the ridges or projections 6 in said floor, and are therefore retained in an approximately vertical position, so that the water readily passes therefrom and is carried out of the receptacle into the sink, thus greatly expediting the drying of the dishes, my device being particularly useful in large hotels and restaurants and the like, where a great number of dishes are handled daily.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a device of the character described, the combination, with a suitable receptacle having an oblong slot at the lower edge of one of its sides, of a corrugated bottom or floor, and an extension-lip formed integral with said bottom or lloor and passing through the 0blong slot, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARY ANNIE YONKERS.
