DRIP-TRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 19, 1905.
Application filed January 12, 1904. Serial No. 188,752.
T0 00% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN GANSWINDT, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Mariendorfer Weg SchGneberg, near Berlin, in the German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drip-Trays, of which the following is an exact, full, and clear description.
This invention relates to improvements in drip-cups for beer-glasses or jugs, cups, and other drinking vessels, bottles, and the like.
The drip-cup according to the invention belongs to that class of drip-cups having an inwardly-bent rim or flange in which the dropping liquid is caught, means being provided for securing the drip-cup to the drinking vessel.
The object of the invention is to provide improved means whereby the drinking vessel is held together with the drip-cup and remains so when in use, such means comprising a wire arrangement which is provided with wire prongs and can be readily inserted within or detached from the drip-cup. In the construction of this part of the invention the elastic wire prongs adapted to secure the vessel and which do preferably not project over the edge of the drip-cup are provided on an open elastic wire ring, which for the purpose of cleaning the drip-cup can be readily removed from the latter. In consequence of this arrangement and the removability of the securing means a thorough cleaning of the drip-cup and its accessories can be easily effected as compared with known drip-cups, in which the securing members are firmly connected to the drip-cup itself and can adhere witlh their projections to the cleaning materia In the accompanying drawings a constructional form of a drip-cup according to the invention is shown, and Figure l is a plan, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of the same.
Figs. 1 and 2 show that the drip-cup a is provided with an inwardly-bent flange Z), so that an annular catching and collecting channel for dropping liquid is formed beneath the The elastic members, by which a vessel or drinking-glass inserted within the drip cup is secured with the latter, consist accord ing to the invention, of wire prongs c 0' 0 which are connected together and form parts of an open elastic wire ring or yoke-shaped part d, (shown in Fig. 1 in dotted lines,) which is supported along the inner rim of the drip-cup covered by the flange b. When inserting a suitably-sized vessel, the wire prongs c c 0 which preferably do not project over the surface of the flange, force themselves apart and by gripping effect the secure attachment of the drip-cup to the bottom of the drinking vessel.
The wire ring or gripping deviced is, on the one hand, automatically attached to the dripcup by merely being placed therein, since, owing to its elastic expanding power, it is firmly clamped at the outer edge of the cup, where for this purpose a groove may be provided, and, on the other hand, the gripping device is also automatically attached to the vessel within the drip-cup, since the wire prongs of the gripping device, which taper conically downward to the opening of the drip-cup, exert a spring action against the side of the drinking vessel, and consequently adhere thereto. ably not project above the drip-cup, so as to enable the drip-cups provided with such wire prongs to be piled one upon the other.
The gripping device d can be readily removed from the drip-cup. Owing to this removability of the gripping device d with the prongs c 0 0 it is thus possible to release the drip-cup from all looking parts and to thoroughly clean same, as well as the gripping device Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the said invention, I declare that what I claim, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a drip-tray, the upper rim of which is curved inwardly and downwardly, a gripping device for holding the drinking vessel or the like to be secured to the drip-tray, the said gripping device consisting of an annular or yoke-shaped wire (Z which is located at the bottom of the drip-tray and pressing against the wall of the above-mentioned rim can be readily inserted within or detached from the drip-tray and which is provided with prongs extending from the bottom of the tray upwardly and terminating in a downward bend to form an elastic grip.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
HERMANN GANSWINDT.
Witnesses HENRY HASPER, WOLDEMAR HAUPT.
