Our invention relates to clips, and particularly to a class of the latter which are used to secure covers or cloth to an ironing-board. Said invention consists of means hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the claims.

The annexed drawings and the following description set forth in detail certain means embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting but one of the various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.

In said annexed drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective vie-w of our improved clip. Fig. 2 represents a side view of the clip shown as securing a cover on an ironing-board, such cover and board being shown in section. Fig. 8 represents a perspective view of the under surface of an ironing-board to which is secured a cover by means of three of our improved clips.

Our improved clip is made from elastic material, preferably spring-steel, and finds a ready use, and that to which we intend it to be particularly applied, is the temporarily securing of a cloth or cover to an ironing-board, although obviously it might be utilized for many other analogous purposes.

Ironing-board covers, as is well known, comprise strips of cloth or similar material, which are secured to the boards, usually upon the under surface of the latter, by sewing, pinning, or other methods of retaining them and frequently are removed from the board in order that they may be washed, replaced by new covers, or otherwise dealt with.

In the accompanying drawings an ironingboard is shown at A, about which is wrapped and secured to it upon its under surface a cover B. For enabling the ready removal and replacement of the cover we use the clip C, which is provided with a laterally-enlarged intermediate portion 0, perforated to receive a screw 0, whereby the clip may be perma nently secured to the board. The ends of the clip C each comprise two sharp-pointed prongs c turned at an angle to the clip-body, preferably approximately a sixty-degree angle, which are adapted to readily pierce the cloth and secure a firm hold in the board, thus retaining the cloth thereon, as can be readily seen in Fig. 3. .To remove the cloth, the ends of the clip are lifted upwardlythe spring of the clip enabling this to be easily eifectedand the cloth removed from thereunder. The laterally-enlarged intermediate portion 0 acts as a strengthening member and prevents the snapping or breaking of the clip at the points of greatest stress upon the materialviz., for short distances on either side of the screw 0. The clips may be used in any desirable number upon the board, and the number of prongs 0 comprising the ends, may be varied as thought suitable.

It will further be noted that our improved clips allow the cloth to be easily and readily attached to and detached from the board and at the same time enable the latter to lie closely to and even upon a table or other suport. P Having thus described our invention in detail, that which we particularly point out, and distinctly claim, is

1. A clip for ironing-board covers comprising a member provided with prongs at its ends adapted to engage the cover and detachably secure same to the board and an intermediate laterally-enlarged portion adapted to be permanently secured to the board.

2. A clip for ironing-board covers comprising a flat s ring member provided with angular ends 'ormed of a plurality of pointed prongs adapted to engage the cover and detachably secure same to the board and an intermediate laterally enlarged strengthening portion adapted to be permanently secured to the board.

3. A clip for ironing-board covers, compris- 'ing a flat spring member ada ted to be permanently secured to the boar and provided with angular ends each formed of two pointed prongs adapted to engage the cover and 5 retain the same against the board.

4. A clip for ironing-board covers, compris-,

ing a member adapted to be permanently secured to the board, and provided with an enlarged strengthening portion and angular :0 ends formed of a plurality of pointed prongs adapted to engage the cover and detachably I secure the same against the board.
