Description

NNNNNNNNN 8.
E. GALVBRT. PPPPPPPP T.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA A ELNATHAN CALVERT, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
FENCE-POST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 19, 1905.
Application filed March 21, 1905. Serial No. 251,212.
.To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ELNATHAN CALVERT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Des Moines, Polk county, Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Fence-Post, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to provide recesses to equalize the strength of the post, to provide handholds to facilitate in handling the post, and to provide projecting wires that may act as a means of securing the fence to the post, and also as a barb to protect the post from stock rubbing against the post.
The post may be made of sand and cement or other suitable concrete material and may have a cavity extending through the post and vary in dimension and shape, as desired.
My invention consists in the post hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the post, the section taken just in front of the wires used to fasten the fence-wires to. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the post. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the post, taken cna line 3 3 in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 4 11 of Fig. 1.
The numeral 10 designates the open-end portion; 11, wires with their ends projecting, forming barbs, and also means of securing the fence to the post; 12, reinforcing-wires that may be used to act as a hook-hold for grapple-iron, as is used in handling heavy material by means of a crane or hoisting-machine.
13 shows body portion of wire projecting, forming loop to receive stay-rod (not shown) to secure fence to post.
111 shows projecting wires near the loops 13 to secure the fence-wire in its proper place.
It is obvious by means of cores and a suitable mold the wires can be placed in the mold and concrete filled in, as required to produce posts differing in size and shape, as desired.
Having thus set forth the purpose of my invention and its construction, the practical utility thereof will be readily understood by those familiar with the art to which it pertains.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An artilicial-stone post with an opening in an end portion, having embedded therein a wire bent upon itself, forming a loop, said loop extending from said post, and a plurality of auxiliary reinforcing-wires having the ends extending from near opposite edges of said post for the purpose set forth.
2. An artificial-stone post having a reinforcing-wire bent upon itself, forming a loop, said loop extending from said post, and anchor-wires, adapted also as barbs, having the ends extending from near the edges of said post substantially as described.
Signed by me at Des Moines, Polk county, Iowa, this 18th day of March, 1905.
ELNATHAN CALVERT.
