INVE/VTDR .Emil ZPaZmenberg WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BASE FOR GARMENT-FORMS- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed July 6, 1905. $erial No. 268,368.
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL T. PALMENBERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Base for Garment-Forms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates toapparel apparatus; and its object is to provide a new and improved base for garment-forms having feet displaying footwear and stockings and arranged to permit convenient forward and backward adjustment of the feet to show more or less of the footwear, according to the dress displayed on the form, and to allow convenient tilting of the form, according to the style of the dress to be displayed.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garment-form provided with the improvement. Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the improvement, and Fig. 3 is a sectionalside elevation of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The su porting-base A of the garmentform is a justably secured in a socket B and fastened therein by set-screws C, and from the lower end of the said socket B extend flanges B, resting on the upper faces of supports in the form of feet D, made of wood or other suitable material and covered by stockings E and shoes F to resemble human feet. Each of the feet D is adjustably secured to the corresponding flange B by a bolt G, attached to the top of the foot D and extending through an elongated slot B formed in the corresponding flange B. The nut G of the bolt G is preferablyin the form of a thumb or wing nut, which whenscrewed down rests on the top of the corresponding flange B, so as to secure the foot D in position on the corresponding flange B.
The slots B in the flanges B are preferably diverging, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2, to allow of adjusting the feet D in a lateral direction to bring the footwear, such as the shoes F and stockings E, in proper relation relative to the garment displayed or hung on the garment-form. Furthermore, by having the arrangement as described the feet D can be turned so as to bring the shoes F into a proper natural position.
In order to give more stability to the base of the garment-form, a rearwardly-extending brace H is provided having a fork H at its rear lower end, the ends of the fork members being adapted to rest on the floor or other support on which also rest the shoes F. The brace H has its upper vertical portion extending through an apertured lug B formed integrally with the socket B at the rear end thereof, and a set-screw I, screwing in the lug B serves to fasten the brace H in position. Now by the arrangement described the brace H can be raised or lowered in the socket B to tilt the entire garment-form more or less forward, according to the style of the dress to be displayed, it being understood that after the garment form has reached the desired position the brace H is fastened in place by the set-screw I.
When the device is in use, the brace H is practically covered by the dress displayed on the form, so that the brace is not visible but the shoes Fproject sufficientlyforward to display the same, thus giving a more natural appearance to the garment-form and the dress displayed thereon.
The device is very simple and durable in construction, can be cheaply manufactured, and the several parts of the base can be readily disconnected to permit of conveniently packing and ship ing the garment-form from one place to anot er.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A base for garment-forms having feet displaying footwear and stockings, the feet being pivotally and adjustably mounted on the base.
2. A base for garment-forms having pivotally-mounted and laterally-adjustable feet.
3. A base for garment-forms having feet covered by shoes and stockings, and a rearwardly-extending brace for the said feet.
4. A base for garment-forms having feet covered by shoes and stockings, and a rearwardly-extending brace for the said feet and adapted to be raised or lowered to tilt the form more or less.
5. A base for garment-forms provided with a socket for receiving the supporting-post of the garment-form, and feet pivotally and ad- 7. A base for garment-forms provided With.
a socket for receiving the supporting-post of the garment-form, feet secured to the said socket, and a rearwardly-extending brace adjustably secured to the said socket.
8. A base for garment-forms provided with a socket for receiving the supporting-post of the garmentform, feet covered with shoes and stockings, and means for securing the feet to the base, whereby the feet may be turned and adjusted to and from the socket.
9. A base for garment-forms provided With a socket for receiving the supporting-post of the garment-form, feet covered With shoes and stockings and adjustably secured to the said socket, and a rearwardlyextending brace adjustably securedto the said socket.
10. A base for garment-forms comprising a socket for the reception of the supportingpost of the garment-form, the socket having slotted flanges extending laterally from the socket, and feet having bolts adjustably engaging the said slotted flanges.
11. A base for garment-forms comprising a socket for the reception of the supportingpost of the garment-form, the socket having slotted flanges extending laterally from the socket, the slots of the flanges being diverging, and feet having bolts adjustably engaging the said slotted flanges.
12. A base for garment-forms comprising a socket for the reception of the supportingpost of the garment-form, the socket having slotted flanges extending laterally from the socket, the said socket also having an apertured lug at its rear, feet covered with shoes and stockings, bolts for adjustably connecting the said feet with the said flanges, a rear brace engaging the said apertured lug, and a set-screw for fastening the said rear brace in place in the said lug.
In testimony whereof-I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMIL T. PALMENBERG.
