Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12,
Application filed December 16, 1904. Serial No. 233,980-
To (all whom it may concern Be it known that i, JOHN A. SULLIVAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleve land, in the county. of-Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Insulated Wire-Supports, of which the following is a specification.-
lviy invention is an improvedinsulated wiresupport; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed,
One object of my invention is to effect inrproveinents vin the construction of the support for the insulator whereby the said support may be readily opened to enable the in suiator to be readily placed therein or removed therefrom.
A further object of my invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the insulator to facilitate its attachment to the wi re. in the accompanying drawings, Figurcl is an elevation of a wi'resnp )ort embodying my improvements, and Fig 2 is partly an end elevation of the'same and partiy a transverse section taken on the plane indicated by the illicit a of. Fig. l.
The support or grip comprises a pair of semicylindrical sections A B. The former is provided on one sidowith a curved outwardlycxtcnding tongue F and on the opposite side.
is provided with an outstanding -lugG, which has a slotor notch H in its outer end, the said slot or notch being open at its outer end. The section I; has on one side an outstanding lug i to bear against the lug G and which is provided with a bolt-hole K to register with the inner end of the slot or notch H. On the opposite side of the section B from the lug l is an outstanding arm or flange L, which is provided with an opening M, through which the tongue F maybe passed. A bolt N is provided and the same is adapted to be placed in the opening K of the lug I and in the slot or notch H of the lug G, with its head O to bear against one of said lugs and the nut P to bear against the other lug, so that the said bolt coacts with the tongue F and the flange L to secure the two sections A B together and permit them to be readily disconnected. It
will be understood that in securingthe sections A B together the curved tongue F is iirst inserted in the opening M, the bolt being inserted in the opening and notch of the respective lugs I {I} after the said sections A B have been closed together. The section B is provided in one side with an opening it for the passage of the stem of a bolt used to secure the device to a hanger and also has a socket S or recess of suitable size and shape to receive a portion of the head of said bolt.
The insulator comprises the two semicylin drical sections D E, which when placed together may be closed on a wire and are of such size and shape :is to he engaged by the sections of the support or grip, the said semicylindricai sections of the insulator being pro-- vidcd attheir ends with iiangesT, which bear against the ends of the sections of the grip or support, and thereby the insulator is retained in the grip or support. in practice the insulator may be made of any suitable material, such as porcelain. The section E of the insulator is provided with a recess or socket U, which registers with the socket S of the grip or supporting section B and coacts therewith to receive the head of the hanger-bolt. it will be understood that by making the insulator of two detachable semicylindnical sections the same may be readily applied to or detached from a wire.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of my invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion,
and the minor'details of construction may he resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus'described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters atent, 'is
The combination of an insulated wiresup- 5;
port comprising a pair of semicyhndrical gripsections having means to detachably secure them together and one said sections having: a radial opening, an insulator eoinpr ing pair of semicyiindricai bi sections sesaid insuiafior-secions having a in one 51(18 reglstez'mg Wlth the radial spenfir "TE sawed mgeinm by she gm -becmonst, one :1
the said'grip-section, a 002%; h: ng i'as head in said recess and its stem tending thseug'h Silid. radial ope 019,1137 as described.
