f Patented Dec. 5, 1905.
.To all, whom it concern: I Beit known that I, EDWARD MURPHY, a citiz en of the United States. residing at Iowa Falls, iii the county of Hardin and State of- Iowa, have invented a new and useful Track- Alining Device, of which the'following is a specification.
l My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in track-alining devices, andhas' for its object to provide a simple, cheap,'an d durable device that will form a rail-brace, f'as well as a track-alining device.
My inventionl consists in the construction,
combination, and .arrangement of partsgmore I fully described and illustrated in the accom-V panying drawingsplate.
Figure l is a perspective view of a railroadtrack, showing my device in place. Fig. 2 is a side elevation'of my device, applied tothe track. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a modification of my device applied to the track.` Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the clamping-rod. Fig. 5 ,is a perspective view of the center Referring to the drawings, A indicates the cross-ties, and B the rails. To the center portion of the tie A there is secured, by means' of rail can be drawn in and out, as maybe de-v spikes c, a iat plate C, provided with an 'eye c at one endl and having notches formed in its sides to receive the spikes c. To the rail Bis securedI the. clamping-rod D, which lis' provided alt its .outer end with the jawd, having an undercut recess d' to receive the ange of the rail. The other end of the rod D is screwthreaded and projects through the eye c in the plate C and is provided with n11'ts'd 2an(` d3, one of the nuts being arranged On-each' side of the eye c. Byarranging the parts asf described it will be seen byloosening up on one nut and tightening up On the other the -sired.
5c and da, as previously used.
` In the modification clearly shown in Fig. 3 I- employ a double brace, which is better adapted, to be used on curves, and instead or"` using the short rod D, as shown in Fig. 4, I
, employ a long rod E, screw-'threaded' at its l center and at its end which extends through the eye c' and is connected to the jaw F by a nut E, said rod being provided with the nuts Z2 Inpractice when it is desired to line up a alinement.
track I 'employ a number of the devices op- I positely arranged to the rail about every iif.
teen or twenty feet, and to'aline the. track it is only necessary to tighten and loosen up the nuts and the track'can be drawn into perfect v The nuts are then screwed up tight against the eye c' and locked, and it will be readily seen that` the device will form a rail -bracethat will i prevent the rails fro spreading or moving farther apart.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what Ifclaim as new, and desire to secure by- Letters Patent,- is- 1. lIn a device of the kindy described', the coman eye secured to the cross-tie and a rod proand the other end projecting through the eye, in. said plate, said end being screw-threaded andl provided with nuts on each side ofthe eye for drawing the track in or shoving the track out, for the purposel described.
' 2. In a device of the kind described, the corn.
bination .with av rail, of a plate provided with vided with'a jaw to receive the rail atone end,
bination with a rail ofa fiat plate provided with,
an eye at one end, and notches formed in its side, secured tO-the cross-tie, a .rod screwthreaded at one end and provided with a jaw at the other end connecting the eye to the raill and means carried by said rod for adjustingsaid rail, for the purpose described.
with .an'eye at one end. secured' to the cross- .tie and a rod connected to said rail, and p rojectingthough the eye insaid plate andbeing screw-threaded and provided with `nuts on each side of the eye for draw-ing the track in,
or shoving the track out, for the purpose de-` scribed.
I EDWARD MURPHY. Witnesses:
L. E. JONES,
GEO. C. PYLE.
