GAME APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 793,002, dated June 20, 1905.
Application filed October 17,1904. Serial No. 228,712.
To (t/fi [Ir/mm it may conic/ova.-
Be it known that l, Ranru DIXON MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tampa, in the county of llillsboro and State of Florida, have invented anew and Improved (lame .-\pparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved game apparatus which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to require considerable skill to successfully play the game.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then poinlcd out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specilication, in which similar characters of reference indicate correspornling parts in both views.
Figure l. is a perspective view of the improvement. and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same.
The base A of the game apparatus is preferably in the form of a circular block having notches or stalls A formed in its peripheral face, and into the said notches is adapted to drop a ball B, hung on the lower end of a cord, wire, or like connection G, attached at its upper end to a head i), mounted to turn on a pivot-pin 1 attached to the topof a post F, secured to and rising centrally from the base A. The post F is preferably made in sections F F, of which the section F is tubular and secured to the base A, and theother section F" telescopes in the section F and is adapted to be fastened thereto by a set-screw F, which when loosened allows vertical adjustment of the section F to bring the ball B in proper position relative to any one of the stalls A' that is, to seat the ball in a stall with the connection 0 perfectly taut.
The head i) is preferably made of a piece of wire bent into angular form and having eyes at its terminals engaging the pivot-pin E and an eye at the apex engaged by the u pper end of the connection (1 in playing the game the person takes hold of the ball and throws it laterally with the necessary force to cause the ball to swing around the post, the head I) turning on the pivot .l l. As the propelling force gradually diminishes the ball swings nearer and nearer the peripheral face of the base, to linally drop into one of the pockets or stalls. Instead of throwing the ball as described the same may be struck with a bat, racket, or the like to cause the ball to spin around the post and to linally drop into one of the stalls. The latter are preferably numbered to give more or less value to the stalls.
If desired, the game may be played by two persons standing at opposite sideso f the apparatus and each wielding a bat, racket, or the like with the object of keeping the ball constantly in motion from one player to the other, the ball if missed by one of the players being allowed to spin around until it linally comes to a rest in one of the stalls, the value of which is reckoned against the player who missed striking the ball.
Other games besides the one mentioned may bedevised and played by the apparatus shown.
llaving thusdescribed my invention, lclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. A game apparatus comprising a base provided in its peripheral face with stalls, a post rising from the base, a head mounted to turn on the post, and a suspensi m-ball suspended from the said revoluble head and adapted to drop into one of the said stalls.
2. A game apparatus comprising a base providcd in its peripheral face with stalls, a post rising from the base and made in :nljustable sections, a pivot-pin attached to the outer end of the uppermost section, a head mounted to turn on the said pivot-pin, a connection attached to the said head, and a ball hung on the said connection and adapted to drop into one of the said stalls.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RALPH DIXON MARTIN.
