Description
No. 761,569; Patented May 31, 1904.
owa STATES PATENT oases.
' THOMAS WIDDOP, or BURNTFORK, WYOMING.
I GLAZIERS. POINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,569, dated May 31, 1904.
Application filed June 3,1903. Serial No. 159,945. (No model.)
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS WIDDOP, aciti-.
zen of the United States, residing at Burnt fork, in the county of Sweetwater and State of Wyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Glaziers Points, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in glaziers points; and its object is to provide a point so constructed as to se-. .curely engage a window-sash and hold a light ing therefrom, both of which are adapted to" be placed into engagement with the sash, and
thereby securely fasten the point in position against accidental displacement. v
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed,
and illustrated in theaccompanying drawings,- showing the preferred form of my invention,
and in which Flgure 1 1s a perspective v1ew showing one of my improved glaziers points attached to one of the sides of a-window-sash. Fig. 2-is a similar View ofa modified form of point at? tached to an intermediate cleat of a sash.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of'the point shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is a View of a blank from which said point is formed. Fig. 5 is a detail view of a modified form of point shown in Fig. 2, and Fig. 6 is a view of the blank from which it is-formed.
' Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is-a plate having a prong 2 extending from the inner end thereof and in alinement therewith.- Extending from this plate at opposite sides of the prong 2 is a forked L-shap'ed extension 3, having a prong}; at its free end, which extends downward therefrom the great objections to the points posite sides of the cleat.
at an angle thereto. i A glaziers point when constructed in this manner is preferably "formed of a blank. such as shown in Fig. 4:-
and which comprises a substantially rectangular'plate provided with a V-shaped extension. A V-shapedslot is formed within the plate, 'and'the blank is adapted to be bent upon the dotted lines shown in Fig. 4, so as to form the plate 1, forked plate 3, and prongs 2 and 4:. After a light of glass has been placed within a window-frame the point herein described is placed with plate 1 thereon, and the prong 2 is then inserted laterally into the win-' dow-sash 5.
Prong 4 is then forced downward into sash 5.at right angles to the prong 2, and it is obvious that the plate 1 will thus be held firmly in position upon the glass.
. Putty can, if desired, be placed over the plate 1 after it has been fastened in position.
A modified form of glaziers point is used upon the intermediate cleats of a windowsash, and this modification has been illustrated in Figs. 2, 5, and 6. It comprises a substantially U-shaped plate6, the ends of which are forked, as shown at 7, and extending in opposite directions from these forked ends are Vshaped extensions 8, having integral prongs 9 at their inner ends in alinement with the openings formed within the forked ends of plate 6. To secure this modified form of point in position, the U-shaped plate 6 is then pressed inward, so as to engage the op- The extensions 8 will thus retain the glass in position upon the sash and prevent displacement thereof. As
shown in Fig. 6, this modified form of point is preferably formed of a rectangular plate having V-shaped extensions at the ends thereof, and V-shaped slots are cut in the plate, so that when the same is bent upon the dotted lines shown in Fig. 6 the parts will assume the positions shown in Fig. 5.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A glaziers point comprising a plate, an angular-shaped extension on one edge thereof, and a prong struck from said extension and in alinement with the plate, said prong and a portion of the extension being in parallel planes.
2. A glaziers point comprising oppositelyarranged similar plates, an angular extension intermediate and integral with the plates, and inwardly-extending prongs struck from said extension and arranged in alinement with each other and with the plates, said prongs being parallel with a portion of the extension. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
