Description

@einen tate ateat HENRY W. PELL, OF ROME, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 73,642, dated January 21, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTERS,
dlgs .%flgam1e-r efrrttaintim tettets atcut tra mating niet at' tige teure.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that 1, HENRY W. PELL, of Rome, in the county of Oneida, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement irrDranght-Attachments for Harvesters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this specification.
Figure 11's a side elevation of a portion of the tongue of a harvester, with draught-attachments, illus- `tro/ting my invention.
`Figure 2 is an under side view of theisame.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts inr the two figures.
My invention consists in connecting the draught-attachments tothe tongue by means of a longitudinal bar, carrying the whiiile-tree bolt, and mounted at its ends upon swinging pendent arms, pivotcd to the under side of the tongue, as hereinafter described. v
In the drawings, A represents the tongue ot' the machine.` B B are two pairs of pendent arms, pivoted to a plate on the under sideioi` the tongue, and carrying at their lower extremities a longitudinal bar, C, to which the doubletree belt or stud D is rigidly attached. vE represents the double-tree, and F the draughtclevis, which are confined upon the s tud D by` a nut, G. II is the draught-chain, extending from the clevis F back vto the frame of the machine.
By this arrangement the whiilc-'trees are securely held against lateral displacement, an upward 4draught is communicated to the beam to carry it easily over obstructionaand by the freeA longitudinal play afforded `to thedraught-attachments, the cutting-apparatus is caused to conform freely and easily to inequalities in the surface of the ground.
If preferred, a single pair of pendent arms, B B, may be used, pivoted at their upper ends to a T-lieaded bolt, passing through the tongue, and at their lower ends to a T-headed beltLD, as illustrated in red in I, the double-tree and draught-clevis being mounted on the bolt D'.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire te secure by Letters Patent, is*- l. rlhe longitudinal bar C, connected at each end to the tongue, by swinging arms i3 B", and carrying 'a stud or bolt, D, on which the double-tree and draught-clevis are mounted, substantiallyas and for the 'purposes set forth.
2. One or more pairs of swinging arms, B, supporting the draught-Clovis and whiiie-tree holt, vertically and laterally, and permitting theirI free play longitudinally beneath the tongue.
HENRY Tv.
