eLose-HoLoran` ioR. BUVRNERS.
SP EGTFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 734,569, dated July 28, 1903. Application filed vApril 24, 1903. Serial No. 154,085. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ whom it may concern,.- v v Be it known that LGEORGE F.KLEMM,a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Globe-Holders for Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a cap or holder for attachment to and movable about the incandescing mantle, burner or burners, and standard of the lamp, so that access may be had to the burner or burners of the lamp to regulate the same asrequired without removing the globe or without disturbing or destroying the mantles of the lincandescent gas burner or burners of the lamp.
The nature, scope, and objects of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Y Figure l is an elevational view, partly in broken section, -of an incandescent gasburner lamp with a cap or holderembodying features of my invention shown in application thereto. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are respectively transverse4 sectional views on the lines a: g/fy, and z z of Fig. l; and Fig. 5 is an elevational view of a modified form of cap or holder applied to an incandescent gasburner lamp, showing in this instance the cap or holder provided with a slidable door for obtaining access to the burner or burners of the lamp, so as to adjust or 'regulate the burner or burners without affecting or destroying the mantles employed with the burner or burners in the manner, for example, as illustrated in Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings, A is the globe of the lamp, adapted to be suitably supported in position and provided at the contracted base with a curved rim or iiange a.
B, B', B2, and B3,Figs. 2 and 8, represent a series of burners mounted in the lamp and carryin gin supported position aboutthe same mantles b b2, and h3, of incandescing material.
C is the gas-inlet pipe, extending downward centrally through the lamp and by means of branches c, c', c2, and c3 connected with the series of burners of the lamp, this inlet-pipe being extended some distance below the burners of the lamp and capped at c4 and which extension forms a standard c5 for 55 a spider-frame d of the cap or holder D of my said invention to such lamps, which spiderframe d is held to the standard c5 by means of a tightening-screw d. The cap or holder D is made, preferably, taperingin shape from 6o the spider-frame d thereof to the upper end and is provided with tightening or thumb screws d2 for engaging the iiange or rim ct of the globe A, as clearly illustrated in Figs.' l and 2 of the drawings. D is provided with a door d3, hinged at d4 with a slidable locking-catch d5, as illustrated in Fig. l, while in Fig. 5 the door is slidable back and forth on .the surface of the cap or holder D. The said cap or holder 7o D is so arranged, as described, as to be turned on the flange or rim a of the globe A, and when the door in either form is open access may be had to the series of burners of the lamp and to the mantles suspended above the burners for adjusting or regulating the flames of the burners with respect to the mantles, so that a proper degree of incandescence may be derived from the mantles induced by the ignited gas of the burners and also pre- 8o Venting deterioration of the mantles or char, ring thereof from lack of the proper quantity of flame from the burner or burners.
` Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a globe-holder for gas-.burners,a standard forming a gas-inlet, a burner or burners connected therewith, a globe, a cap or holder having a movable door, said. cap or holder 9o provided With a spider-frame and clamping. devices, certain of said devices engaging said globe and one of `said devices engaging said standard, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. In aglobe-holder for gas-b u`rners,a standard forming a gas-inlet, aburner or burners Aconnected therewith, a globe, a cap or holder provided with aspider-frame,clamping-screws and a movable door, the clamping-screws of Ioo said frame and cap or holder adapted to permit of the turning of said cap or holder on The @ap or holder 6g,`
said globe and on the standard of said gasinlet, substantially as and for the purposes described.
3. In a globe-holder for gas-burners, a stendard forming a gas-inlet, a burner or burners connected therewith, a globe, a cap or holder having e hinged door and clamping-screws and spider-frame having a clamping-screw adapted to engage seid standard below the lo gas burner or burners to support said cap or holder and globe, in required position, Substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE F. KLEMM.
