zen of the United States, residing in New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain newv and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention, relating to that class of garmentsupporters generally known as sus-v penders, has for one of its objects to provide,v

a construction whereby thin sheet metal may be employed in making trimmings for suspenders without the parts being out away at the pivot or the pivot itself being cut by themetal, which has heretofore been objectionable.

, A further object is to increase freedom of action, reduce friction, and minimize resistance in the trimming or attachment.

In constructing trimmings, attachments, or equalizers for garment-supporters where the former usually comprises pivoted members diiculty has been experienced iu that the thinness of the metal presents a knifeedge which cuts the pivot in two, because of the direct bearing it has on the pivot. The present construction, however, will relievevthe strain from the pivot, so that the cutting away is prevented.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 illustratesa suspender pro vided with the improved trimming. Fig. 2 is a view of the trimming detached from the shoulder-straps and partly broken away to show the construction. Fig. 3 illustrates sectionally a view on the line oc oc, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the attachment, partly broken away. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a hanger, and Fig. 6 is a view of the blank which forms the lever.

The attachment comprises a lever A and a hanger B, which are pivoted together, as atA 1. The lever A constitutes a sheet-metal blank C, which is bentv upon itself to form Walls 2 3, Fig. 3, and each extremity of said lever is provided with bifurcations 4 5, which preferably are formed by the recesses 6 7 in the blanks C in Fig. 6.` Pivotally mounted l in said bifurcations are the attachments 89, Be it known that I, HENRY C. A hanger B is pivoted to the lever A,as at a portion 10, provided with lateral treads 11 12, which bear upon rollers 13 14, carried within the walls 2 3 of said lever A. It will be noted that this attachment comprises two members which are pivoted together and forming an equalizer and that by reason of the'rollers provided in the lever the pivot receives no strain from the hanger, but the point of bearing is formed between the lateral treads of the hanger and the faces of the friction-rollers. lt will also be seen that the placing of the rollers Vat points opposite the central draft prevents strain on said pivot from any direction. Myiuvention thus comprises, a jointed trimming for a garmentsupporter, saidtrimming comprising the following elemenls, viz: two members and a series ot' rollers independently pivoted upon one of said members, the other of said members having curved tread portions riding upon said rollers, and means being provided for retaining said members in cooperative relapivots at separa-te points upon the leverthereby affording a series of supports upon which the curved edges ofthe hanger may freely ride. Preferablyboth of the members are formed of sheet metal, and one consists of a pair of plates and incloses the other of said members.

2.v A garment-supporter comprising shoulderstraps and button ends, a connection therebetween comprising a lever' the extremities whereof are provided with attachments for holding said straps, a hanger adapted to receive said button ends pivoted to said lever, series of rollers carried by said lever, and treads on said hanger and adapted to ride on said rollers.

3. A garment-supporter, a portion whereof comprises an equalizer having a lever provided with shoulderstrap attachments, a hanger holding the button ends and pivoted to said lever, tread portions formedon the upper part of said hanger, and rollers carried by said lever whereon ride said tread portions.

4. A garment-supporter comprising shoulder -straps and button ends, a connection therebetween comprising a lever provided with attachments to receive the shoulderstraps, a hanger pivoted thereto which receives the button ends, treads formed on said hanger, and rollers carried by said lever and on opposite sides of said hanger whereon the latter is adapted to ride.

A garment-supporter comprising shoulder-straps and button ends, a connection therebetween comprising a lever having walls, attachments pivoted to said lever for receiving the shoulder-straps, a hanger adapted to receive the button ends and pivoted to and between said walls, treads formed on said hanger near the pivot, and rollers supported between said walls on opposite sides of said hanger, said rollers being adapted to relieve the strain from said pivot.

A garment-supporter comprising shoulder-straps and button ends, a connection therebetween comprising a lever having walls and provided with bifurcations, attachments pivotally mounted in said bifurcations and adapted to receive the shoulderstraps, a hanger pivoted to and between said walls and provided with treads, and rollers carried by said lever on opposite sides of said hanger and which are adapted to support the latter from straining said pivot.

A garment-supporter comprising shoulder-straps and button ends, a connection therebetween comprising a lever having walls and provided with bifurcations, attachments pivotally mounted in said bifurcations and adapted to receive the shoulderstraps, a hanger pivoted to and between said walls and provided with treads, and rollers carried by said lever on opposite sides of said hanger and which are adapted to support said hanger and permit a rocking motion of the latter.

8. A garment-supporter comprising shoulderstraps and button ends, a connection therebetween comprising a lever provided with rollers,and a hanger having treads adapted to operate on said rollers, said hanger being pivoted to said lever at a point intermediate said rollers.

9. A garment-supporter comprising shoulder-straps 'and button ends, a connection therebetween comprising a lever provided with rollers and having attachments to receive said straps, a hanger pivoted to said lever and adapted to carry said button ends,said hanger being provided with treads which bearon said rollers.

10. A jointed trimming for a garment-supporter, comprising two members each being provided with means for attachment to astrap or cord, a series of rollers independently pivoted upon one of said members, and the other of said members having curved tread portions riding upon said rollers, and means being provided for retaining said members in coperative relation; in combination with straps or cords attached to and loosely connected by the members of said trimming, said straps or cords being provided with means for attachment to a garment.

A jointed trimming for a garment-snpporter, comprising two sheet-metal members each being provided with means for attachment to a strap or cord, whereof one member consists of a pair of plates and incloses the other member, a series of rollers being pivoted at different points between said plates, and said inclosed member having curved edges which ride upon said roller; in combination with straps or cords attached to and loosely connected by the members of said trimming, said straps or cords being provided with means for attachment to a garment.

12. A jointed trimming for a garment-supporter, comprising two sheet-metal members each being provided with means for attachment to a strap or cord, a series of independently-pivoted rollers, and means for retaining said sheet-metal members and said rollers in cooperative relation, so that said sheet-metal members may turn relatively to each other upon said rollers; in combination with straps or cords attached to and loosely connected by the members of said trimming, said straps or cords being provided with means for attachment to a garment.
