Be it known that we, HERMAN WoenEn and BENENDIKTLGEIGER, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State ot` Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the aecompanying drawing, which is made a part 'of thisrspecication.

The subject of our invention is a device for operating the curtain, and sustaining it at any desired point by means of a weightattachcd-to the curtain-cord, and sliding on 4a. guide-redattuched to the window-frame; and this improvement consists in combining with thewei ht a spring compressed within it, which presses against the'guide-rod, and by its friction renders the weight capable of counterbalaneing a mneh heavier curtain than it could otherwise, while it also, by supporting the weight, rendersit capable of-operating a curtain otherwise too light. y v

In the drawing, our invention is illustrated by a perspective view of the inside of a. win-dow with our improved ixture applied, a. part of the weight being broken awayto more fully show its construction.

A represents the curtain, B the cord by which it is operated, and C the weight attached to the end of said cord, and sliding on the rod D, which is attached to the window-frame by spurs d driven into the sill and jamb. The weight C basan openiiig through it, corresponding with the rod D on which it slides, and a smaller' orifice for the attachment of the cord B, the' end of which is knotted within the recess e, in which a. spring, E,

Vis located.V This spring bears against the side of the bar, and Vincreases the resistance of theweight to the movement of the curtain, thus enabling it to support a much heavier curtain than it could otherwise, while'it steadies the movements ofthe weight', and renders the weight more easily adjusted to dierent'sizes of curtains. By making the rodD angular, the weight is prevented from turning on it, and a better bearing-surface for the spring E is presented. A

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire te secure by Letters Patent, is The spring E, in combination with the hollow weight C and guide-rod D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth..

To the above specification of our improvement in curtain-fixtures, we have signed our hands, this 19th day of September, A. D. 1867.
