THE NORRIS PETERS co. Pnrmxumuu UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK C. MILLER, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
LOCK'ET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 711,516, dated October 21, 1902.
Application filed March 10, 1902. Serial No. 97,666. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK O. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Lockets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in what are commonly known as blind-joint loekets, and has for its objects the ends commonly sought in such structures; also, to provide for the insertion of a plurality of pictures without noticeably increasing the bulk of the locket. These objects are attained by means of the structure shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a perspective view of my new locket; Figs. 2 and 3, side and edge elevations of the same, respectively; Fig. 4, a transverse vertical section of the upper portion of the closed locket on line 1 2 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5, a horizontal section of the distended locket, taken on line 3 4 of Fig. 2.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views.
My locket consists of two concavo-convex inclosing shells or covers E D, each provided with an annular depression upon its inner face near its periphery. Intermediate the covers, hinged to each of the same, is an intermediate annular, frame 0, to the inner margin of which is fixed a flanged rim, adapted to form a seat F for two pictures. The
frame 0 is hinged, at points situated diametrically opposite each otherupon its periphery, to the covers D and E by the joints or hinges A and B, respectively, both of which hinges are located upon the inner faces and near the peripheries of the covers D and E. Opposite the hinges A and 13, near the peripheries of the covers, are slots to admit frictional entrance of both hinges when the locket is closed.
It will be noted that by the above construction the joints are hidden, a display of four pictures is afforded, and the locket is much thinner than has been possible heretofore.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a locket, the combination with a front cover of an interior hinge near its periphery,
a slot also near its periphery diametrically opposite the hinge,-a back cover, an interior hinge thereon near its periphery, a slot near the periphery of the back cover diametrically opposite its hinge, and a frame intermediate Vitnesses EDWIN'LEAOH,
EDWIN P. LEACH.
