' Be it known that I, OTTO LAUBER, engineer, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at 36 Griinstrasse, Essen-Altendorf, Germany, 5 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Carriages, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to improvements in gun-carriages, and particularly to apparatus for regulating the amount of recoil and the running-out movement, as described in Resows United States Patent No. 620,360, dated February 28, 1899.
The object of this present invention is to simplify the construction of the apparatus described in said patent without essentially reducing its efficieucy. To this end my invention consists, essentially, in a recoil apparatus for field-gun carriages comprising a brake-spur, .a thrustbolt having a head engaging the spur, and a shank of Wedge-shaped cross-section journaled at its forward end in a box aifixed to the carriage, an adjustable friction-bearing 25 for the shank arranged in said box, and
means for exerting an adjustable yielding pressure on the thrust-bolt through the bearing, whereby more or less friction is created between the surfaces of the shank of the bolt and those of the bearings.
The nature of my invention will best be understood when described in connection with theaccompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 repre ents a longitudinal vertical section of part 0 a gun-carriage embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is avertical section on the line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 3 3, Fig. 1.

In order that this invention may be more fully understood, I will proceed first to describe the general construction of the parts- 5ifor instance, as shown in Resows United States Patent No. 620,360-and then describe the present improvement.

ings or brasses E, having wedge-shaped cavities therein and placed within the journaled box D, which is provided with means f and g for its adjustment or compression.
In View of the arrangement described a higher frictional resistance is caused by the cooperation of the thrust-rod and the wedgeshaped surfaces on the pressure-bearings than in the case of a circular cross-section for these parts, the frictional resistance increasing as the angle of the wedge-shaped surfaces is made more acute. By thus increasing the frictional resistance the notch in the thrust-bar and the thrust-plate of the pressure-bearings may be omitted, and consequently the construction of the bar and that of the whole regulating devices are simplified.
