Letters Patent 'No. 70,651, dated November 5, 1867.
IMPROVED nETAIN'INe-LINK ron SHUTTBns T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, MARTHA THOMAS, of Lower Merion, county ofl Montgomery, State of Pennsylvanie, have invented a, Retaining-Link for Shutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a. full, elettr, and exact-description of the sume.
My invention consists of a. retaining-link, of the peculiar construction fully described hereafter, forlimit-A ing the outward movement of shutters, and maintaining a. hold .of the rings of the shutters when the lettoridife agitated by the wind.
In order` to cn'ableothers to make and applymy invention, I will now proceed` to describe its-construction and operetion,reference being lin-d to the accompanying'd`ra,\ving, \vhich forms n. part-of this specicationeand in which the figure represents my invention in perspective. l
A and A 'are portions of two shutters opened to o limited extent, and retained by a link, B, of the peculiar 'character shown. Each end of this lin-k is provided with two hooks, a and b, the point of one of which projects beyond that of the other, there being jvustrspace suiicientbetween them topermit the usual shutter-ring d to be introduced into the hook tt, as s'hown in the-drawing, The connecting strip e, betWeen'the-opposite ends ofv the link, may be made plain or ornamental, -as desired, und maybe furnished with a tassel, as shown. While the hooks a-of the above-described link eee'tunlly limit the outward movement of the shutters, the hooks b prevent the escape of the ringed from their hold on'the link should the shutters'be agitfted by the wind.
I claim-as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl The Within-described retaining-link, composed o'f a strip, e, of metal, with hooks a and b arranged at each end, es and for the purpose herein set forth. v v
