HOSE-SUPPORTER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 697,049, dated April 8, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARA H. WHEELER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of

- which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hose-supporters; and its object is to provide an improved supporter of this character that is adapted to support the hose from the back and hips without interfering with the free movement of the limbs and also to serve as a support to the abdomen by having a part thereof exert an upward pressure on the same.

In carrying my invention into effect I provide a band, preferably non-elastic, that is formed to pass across the wearers back and forwardly and downwardly over the hips,with the ends thereof extending in a backward or return curve below the hips and terminating in the elastic straps which carry the fasteners for attachment to the hose, the backward or return curve in the band serving to throw and support the elastic straps in a position at one side of the limbs, so as not to interferewith the free movement of the latter. This band is adapted to be held in its proper position on the body by a second hand, preferably elastic, which is connected at its ends thereto and extends across the abdomen, such second or elastic band operating in holding the rear band in place to also exert pressure against the abdomen, and thereby support the same.

In the accompanying drawings, Figured is a view of my improved hose-supporter in position upon the wearer, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of the same detached from the wearer.

In the drawings, 1 indicates the band which passes across the wearers back and over the hips, the same being formed with a dip or downwardly-curved portion at its rear side, as at 2, so as to assume a position below the waist-line and not be under the wearers garments at such point and also for the purpose of more fully conforming to the figure of the wearer to insure greater comfort in its use. The forward ends 3 3 of this band where they pass over the hips are made somewhat wider for the purpose of giving an easier support at such point and also to insure the same retaining their proper form, the latter being the curve which causes the band to pass downwardly forward of the hips and then in a backward or return curve below the same, such form, as before referred to, serving to throw the connected side straps 4: to a position at the side of the wearers limbs, as shown in Fig. 1, so as not to interfere with the free movement of the latter.

.The elastic band, (indicated at 5,) which connects with the forward ends of the band 1 and operates to hold the latter'in its proper position on the wearer, extends across the lower part of the abdomen and is caused, by reason of its being under tension in retaining the band 1 in place, to bear with an inward and upward pressure against the abdomen, and so operate to support the same, the strain required to support the hose being taken by the back and hips alone.

Having thus set forth myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

1. A hose-supporter, comprising a band adapted to pass across the Wearers back and having curved portions formed to extend downwardly forward of the hips and in a backward or return direction below the latter, means for attachment to the hose supported by the ends of said band in a position at one side of the wearers limbs, and an elastic band connected to the opposite sides of the firstmentioned band adapted to extend across or below the abdomen, for the purpose set forth.

2. A hose-supporter comprising a band adapted to pass across the wearers back and being formed with a dip or downwardlycurved portion therein and also having curved portions formed to extend downwardly forward of the hips and in a backward or return direction below the latter, means for attachment to the hose supported by the ends of said band in a position at one side of the wearers limbs, and a second band connected to the opposite sides of the first-mentioned band adapted to extend across or below the abdomen, for the purpose set forth.
