The' object of my invention is to. priovidean easy method of removing `the sash or window for cleaning, repairing, or any other purpose, without defacing the paint or wood-work by withdrawing the nails or screws that are usually used for holding the window-stop in its place. i
I make the window-stop in two parts, connected either with a hinge, as shown in g'..1, or by a button, as shown in fig. 2, the joint being a littleabove the centre of the window. The upper part of the stopisjrmly fastened to the window-casing, the lowerend being fastened by av small bolt, as shown at e e in iig. 1l The partition bead that stands in the jamb-casings, I also make in two pieces; The upper partis made fast in the casing,
the lower part being held in position rby a tenon at the upper end, and by a spring at the bottom, as shown at i in g.. 3.' The hinges may be so placed upon the stops as to swing forward nto'theroom, as seen ingzl, at c, or across the'window, as shown by the red lines in fig. 1. YOne of these hinges, as shown at Zin fig. 1, firmly attaches the two parts. The other is so made that the lower part can be detached and entirely removed, as
`shown at c in lig. 1 or fig. 4. i
I donot confine myselfto any specific device for holding the stops in their places-at the bottom, which may be by a bolt, as shown, or otherwise. y i
What I claim as my invention, and desire to' secure by Letters Patent, isp Window-stops, when made in two parts, andarranged, connected, and operated substantially as described,
