No. 67!,269. Patented Apr. 2. l90l.
C. DUFOUR. I
COMBINED UNDEBVEST AND CORSET COVER.
(Application fi led Nov. 22, 1900.)
(m, modem WITNESSES .A TTORNEYS Fries.
CORINNE DUFOUR, OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
COMBINED UNDERVEST AND CORSET-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 671,269, dated April 2, 1901.
Application filed November 22, 1900. Serial No. 37,333. kNo model.)
To all whom zit may concern.-
Be it known that I, CORINNE DUFOUR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Savannah, in the county of Ohatham and State of Georgia, have in venteda new and Improved Combined Undervest and Corset-Cover, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to undergarments worn by females; and its object is to provide a new and improved garment combining an undervest or chemise and a corset-cover and arranged to permit the wearer to use it for the protection of the chest and back when wearing an ordinary-dress or to employ it as a corset-cover when wearing a low-necked dress.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement as applied and worn as an undervest. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same arranged as a corset-cover, and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the improvement with the front flap down.
The improved garment consists, essentially, of a tubular body A, from the upper end of which extend a front flap l3 and a rear flap 0, adapted to be fastened together at their side edges by suitable fastening devices D, such as buttons or the like. The body A and the flaps B and O are preferably connected with each other by an extremely-flexible joint E, preferably in the form of an open mesh, as is plainly indicated in Fig. 3. Bythis arrangement the flaps B and O can be readily extended in alinement with the body or folded down over a corset F, as indicated in Fig. 2. When the flaps B and O are folded down over the corset F and the side edges of the flaps are fastened together by the fastening devices D, then in order to insure a proper fit I prefer to use a draw-string G in the flaps adjacent to the joint E, so as to draw the flaps tight over the corset F at the upper portion thereof, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2.
The body A and the flaps B and C may be woven or knit and of wool, cotton, or other suitable material, it being understood that the body and flaps may be used as an undervest or as a chemise; but in either case the flaps have the additional function of forming a corset-cover when folded down upon the corset as described-that is, with the corset extending between the body and the flaps.
The side edges of the flaps are inclined inwardly, so that when the flaps are extended, as shown in Fig. l, the side edges thereof form armholes for the arms, the fastening devices D being used only at the tops of the edges to secure the flaps together above the arm of the wearer, as indicated in said Fig. 1.
When the flaps are used for covering the corset, as shown in Fig. 2, then two or more fastening devices are used, as indicated in said Fig. 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A combined undervest and corset-cover, comprising a body having a front and a rear flap secured to its upper end, said flaps being provided with means for securing the outer corners of the flaps together, as set forth.
2. A combined undervest and corset-cover, comprising a tubular body, a front flap and a back flap, both extending from the upper edge of the body, and means for securing the flaps together at their edges when extended beyond said body or when folded over the corset with the latter between the body and the flaps, as set forth.
3. A combined undervest and corset'cover, comprising a tubular body, a front flap and a back flap, both extending from the upper edge of the body, means for securing the fiaps together at their edges when extended beyond said body or when folded over the corset with the latter between the body and the flaps, and a draw-string in the flaps, adjacent to the joint of the flaps with the body, as set forth.
4. A combined undervest and corset-cover, comprising a tubular body, a front flap and a back flap adapted to be secured together at fastening devices for securing the edges of the 10 flaps together, as set forth.
-In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CORINNE DUFOUR.
their'edges, and extending from said body and arranged to form arinholes at their side edges, as set forth.
5. A combined undervest and corset-cover, comprising atubular body, a front flap, a back flap, the flaps having open joints' with the upper edge of the body, to permit of readily folding the flaps over the corset 0r extending the I flaps in alinement with the tubular body, and
