Geoye 6. 0027717121 @Heim UNrTnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
GEORGE C. CONKLIN, OF ROSLYN, NEW YORK KlTCH EN-TABLE.
SPECIFICI-LTION forming part of Letters Patent No. 670,845, dated March 26, 1901.
Application filed November 24, 1899 Serial No. 738,165. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, GEORGE C. CONKLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roslyn, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the general class of tables, but more particularly to wall-tables; and the object thereof is to provide a device of the character described adapted to be rigidly secured to the side wall or wainscoting of a room, whereby a minimum amount of space will be required.
Vith this object in View my invention consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, which will be referred to hereinafter, definitely claimed, and illustrated in the drawings, in which- Figure l is a bottom perspective View of a wall-table constructed in accordance with my invention; and Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the same, the parts being folded.
Referring now to the drawings by referencenumerals, 5 indicates a sill longitudinally arranged and connecting the inner legs 6 and 7, from the front side of which project the cleats Sand 9. The tops of said cleats are iiush with the top edge of the legs, so that they will abut against the under side of the inner top section l0. It will be noticed that this top section l0 comprises a comparatively narrow strip of material, the edge 1l extending only slightly beyond the cleats. Hinged to the edge ll is a leaf l2, provided with strengthening-battens 12BM and adapted to be folded or dropped down, as seen in Fig. 2, and supported as follows:
To the middle part of the sill 5 is hinged a supporting-arm 13 by a hinge 14, said hinge being connected to the arm at the side thereof, so that the end of said arm will abut against the side of the sill when the parts are in their extended position, whereby said arm will be braced against the sill. This arm projects a slight distance beyond the juncture of the inner top section and its leaf, and at the free end of said arm is a supplemental legcarrying arm l5, connected to the single outer leg 16, adapted to occupy a central position beneath the outer edge of the leaf or a position between the inner legs. Attention is directed to the fact that the hinge 17, which connects the two arms, is oppositely disposed with relation to the hinge 14, so that the two arms can be folded upon each other to be retracted and contained within the width of the inner top section 10 when the leaf is folded down.
In order that the structure thus formed may be rigidly secured to a suitable support, such as the wall or the like, I provide hooks 18 to the side of each rear leg.
It will thus be seen that I have provided an exceedingly simple wall -table particularly adapted to kitchens or any small room where space is an important factor to the comfort of the occupants.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A wall-table comprising a single sill, the inner legs connected by the sill, a narrow inner top section supported on the sill and inner legs, the outer top section or leaf, hinges located onthe under side of the top whereby the top sections are connected together, the inner supporting-arm hinged at its inner end to the sill so as to fold thereagainst, in one direction, the outer supporting-arm hinged to the outer end of the inner supporting-arm so as to fold against the latter in the opposite direction to the former, and a single centrallyarranged outer leg secured directly to the outer end of the outer supporting-arm.
2. A wall-table comprising a single sill, the inner legs connected by the sill, each having a hook whereby they can be fastened to suitable eyes on a wall, a narrow inner top section supported on the sill and inner legs, cleats whereby the inner top section is braced to the legs, the outer top section or leaf provided with strengthening-battens, hinges located on the under side of the top whereby the top sections are connected together, the inner supporting-arm hinged at its inner end to the sill so as to fold thereagainst in one direction, the outer supporting-arm hinged to the outer end of the inner supporting-arm so as to fold against the latter in the opposite direction to the former and a single centrallyarranged outer leg secured directly to the outer end of the outer supporting-arm.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE C. CONKLIN.
