O. A. KING, OF BEDFO-RD, OHIO.
Lam-s Patent No. 67,658, dated August 13, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN UHEESE-HOOP.
c ts granule ttitttth to iitflgtse gtrttcts 33mm not making and at flgt smut.-
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known thatJ, O. A. KING, of Bedford, in the county of Cuyahoga', and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful .hmprovements in Cheese-Hoops; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specifieation, in which I Figure 1 is a side view of a detached section of a hoop, with the clamp attached and locked.
Figure 2 is view of the same, with the clamp unlocked.
Figure 3 is atop view.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the views.
A, fig. 1, is a detached section of a cheese-hoop, which is made of galvanized sh-e'et iron or other suitable metal, and to which is attached a clamp, consisting-of a p ate. B, bolted near to one end of the hoop. Do this plate ishinged a. lever, C, in the stay D, and which is connected to the opposite end of the hoop by the links E, provided with loops or eyes F at each end; and hookedtothe lever are the pins Gr and to thcoppo site end of the hoop by the lugs II, as shown in fig. 1. The condition of the clamp, as shown in this figure, is such, when the hoop is closed or locked and the cheese within, under pressure. An edge view of the same is shown in fig. 3, in which it will be observed that the pins or pivots G, to which the links are attached to the lever, are between the t'ulerum cf the lever and the side of the plate. Now it will be obvious that the pressure elverted by the compressed cheese is to cause an expansion of the hoop. This expansive pressure draws the lever hard against the plate or side of the hoop,- which thereby prevents thehoop from expanding, and hence holds it with great ,strength and security. On the pressure being removed from the cheese the hoop is expanded by drawing the 1 free end of the lever away from the side of the hoop until theline of draught falls upon the opposite side of the fulcrum or the point :11. The expansive nature of the hoop will now bring the lever to the position shown in fig. 2, thus allowing the hoop to expand the distance indicated by the space I. The cheese thus released can be easily taken from the hoop, which is again locked by throwing the lever back againstthe sideof the plate, as above described. The diameter of this hoop can be increased or lessened by shifting the attachment of the plate 13 nearer to or'distant from the end of the hoop, thus causing more or less lapping of the ends, as the case may be, extra holes, a, being provided for the insertion of the bolts, by which the plate D is secured to the hoop.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The lever C, links E and lugs H, arranged in re'lation to the hoop substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
O. A. KING.
