CARL ROBERT WEIDMULLER, OF CHEMNITZ, GERMANY.
BUTTON FOR GL'OVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 662,8d4, dated November 27, 1900. Application filed June 20, 1900. Serial No. 20,989. (No modem To all whom it map concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL ROBERrWEID- MT'JLLER, a subject of the King of Saxony and the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of the city of Ohemnitz, Saxony, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons for Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons for gloves and the like, such as are composed of two separable parts known, respectively, as the socket member and the stud member, the object of the invention being to produce a button of this class provided with improved means for securing both members to the fabric.
With this object in view the invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and afterward specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are sectional views of the two parts composing the socket member. Figs. 3 and 4 are similar views of the two parts composing the stud member. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the socket member secured to the fabric. Fig. 6 is a similar View of the stud member secured to the fabric. Fig. 7 is a similar view of both members secured to the respective fabrics and secured together or fastened. Fig. 8 is a bottom plan view of the socket member, as shown in Fig. 5. Fig. 9 is a top plan view of the stud member, as shown in Fig. 6.
Like letters of reference mark the same parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by letters, a indicates the face of the button, made plain or ornamental, as desired, of any suitable material and secured in any suitable manner to a tubular body or socket 17, provided with an annular exterior groove 0 and an end opening. A curved washer h is provided with a central opening and is radially slitted or notched outward from said central opening to a sufficient depth to render the edges around the central opening elastic. To secure the socket member to a fabric, as at f, the socket b is passed through a hole in the fabric and the washer h pressed over the end which projects through the fabric until the elastic Walls of the central opening of the washer snap into the groove 0 of the socket b, which will firmly secure the socket member to the fabric.
2 indicates the stud member, which is provided with an end flange, as shown in Figs. 3, 6, and 9, the main body or socket being provided with two annular exterior grooves d and cand being slotted or notched inwardly from the head end, as at cl, the slots extending inward beyond the annular groove OZ, but terminating before reaching the annular groove 6, whereby that portion of the stud in which the groove 6 is formed is rigid and that portion in which the groove d is formed is elastic or compressible.
indicates a curved washer similar in construction to washer h before described.
To secure the stud member in position, the stud is passed through the fabric g from the inside and the curved washer 7r squeezed down over the stud on the outside of the fabric until the elastic walls of the central opening of the washer snap into the groove 6, thus firmly securing the stud with its elastic or compressible portion projecting, as shown in Fig. 6.
To fasten the button or to button the two fabrics j and 9 together, the socket b is passed over the projecting end of the stud, compressing the sides of the 'stud inward until the walls of the opening in the head of the socket snap into the groove (Z, as shown in Fig. 7.
With the socket and stud members of a button constructed as described these parts may be quickly secured to or removed from fabrics and the members secured together or pulled apart instantly and easily.
Having thus fully described myinvention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A button comprising a socket member composed of a hollow socket or body proper having an annular groove and an opening in its head, a face or front secured to the body or socket, and a washer, the walls of the opening of which are radially slitted or notched, thereby rendering said walls elastic, said washer being adapted to be pressed over the body until said elastic walls snap into the annular groove of the body, substantially as described.
2. Abutton comprisingastud member comgroove when the washer is pressed over the posed of ahollow stud with an annular flange end of the hollow stud, substantially as de and two exterior annular grooves, the stud scribed. being also slotted inward from the end and In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 5 beyond the outer annular groove, rendering my invention I have signed my name in pres- 15 that portion compressible and elastic and leavence of two subscribing Witnesses.-
ing that portion in which the inner annular CARL ROBERT WEIDMULLER. groove is formed rigid, and a washer having Witnesses: a central opening With slitted or notched F. J. DIETZMAN,
1o walls adapted to snap into the inner annular H. THIELE.
