TO ALLWHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known thatl I, JOHN KURTZ, of Clinton township, (Muncey station post oliice,) Lycoming county, State 0f Pennsylvania, have invented an ImprovedCorn-Cultivator and Potato-Plough Combined, and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof7 reference being had to. the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a top view.
Figure 2, a side elevation of the cultivator and plough.`
The nature of my invention consists in the slotted side pieces, with adjustable upriglits attached to th reversible or changeable ploughs, for covering corn or ploughing potatoes. I
A represents the angular frame, narrow in front and wide behind; B B, the slotted side pieces, with iron plates `C on each side of the slotsD, (at the top and bottom of the side pieces 13,) are to strengthen the side pieces, and prevent the wearing ofthe slots D by the adjusting ofthe uprights E -E and their adjusting-screw Gr,
The uprights E are moved back and forward in the slots D when required to be adjusted; and to regulat',x the points of the plough H for deep or shallow furrows, I raise Vor lower the end Vof upright E by the adjusting-screw G, and the width between the points of the ploughs is also regulated by moving the tops ofthe `uprights E in the slots D back and forward from one'to twelve inches, forV covering the corn. To plough up potatoes, I reverse or move and change the ploughs H to the opposite sides; that is, I change the right-hand plough, and screw the uprights E into the slot D of the left-hand side piece B, which changes the points of the ploughs H narrowin front, as shown by the red lines J. The draught-beam L is in the centr-e, and the handles M are set obliquely to the beam L.
What I claim as my invention,` and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The slotted side pieces B B, with their top and bottom bars or ,plates C C and adjustable uprights E E, as arranged and combined with the reversible ploughs H H, as herein described and for the purposes 'set forth.
2. I also claim the'slotted side pieces B B, with their bars C C, for the purposes set forth.
JOHN KURTZ.
